Deputy Executive Director and Chief Publishing Officer at Optica (formerly OSA), the Society Advancing Optics and Photonics Worldwide (Tweets are my own.)
Delighted to share new details about Optica Quantum (#OPG_OpticaQ). See the new Deputy Editors and a list of topic categories to be covered by the Journal. Submissions open in June. https://t.co/mpAAjHyzh9
Thanks so much for supporting Optica Open, Susana. We’re delighted to be able support our community with the only preprint server dedicated to optics and photonics.
For #OFC23 attendees: "The Journal Review Process: All You Need to Know!" is happening now in Room 14B until 15:30 on Monday, 6 March 2023. Thanks to Senior Publisher @KCohen95 for sharing insights into scientific journal peer review.
Our mission is to support the #optics and #photonics community. Optica Open is another way for us to do just that. By reflecting discoveries from arXiv as well as those submitted directly, we hope to provide the community with the largest corpus of #preprints in the field.
Optica Publishing Group is pleased to announce the launch of Optica Open, a new #preprint server dedicated to advancing #optics and #photonics research around the globe.

We are a long supporter of OA. 25 years ago we launched #OPG_OpEx, the first OA physics journal. Now half of the journals we publish & more than 55% of our content is OA. With new read & publish agreements in UK and Ireland, we expect that % to grow in 2023. #OpenAccessWeek2022.

The multi-year deals will allow authors at member institutions to have ongoing access to OPG's leading optics journals. @OpticaPubsGroup

Top-20 2021 Impact Factor for Optics Journals
Several journals I've barely heard of. I think the system is now being gamed sufficiently that IF may no longer be an indicator of paper quality in a journal.
We can only change this if we change the way we publish, hire, and promote scientists. I have seen hiring and promotions committees acknowledge that these metrics are flawed (IF, H-index) so I'm hopeful that we're moving in the right direction. Best to look at the science.
As part of our commitment to inclusivity, we celebrate all women authors, editors & reviewers in #optics and #photonics. Your contributions are vital to the field, to our community and to the integrity of our publishing program. #IWD2022
Today we celebrate and thank our #WomenEditors. Our publishing program's success depends on the interdisciplinary, global exchange of knowledge that is inclusive, seeks contributions from all sources, and is based solely on excellence. https://t.co/Btak5z7rjF #WomenInScience
A third of retractions are due to Accidental republication (36.76%) - come on !!!! how can this happen?

We were so lucky to have Jane Simmons as the Editor-in-Chief for JOCN. She was incredibly dedicated to & passionate about the Journal and ensured that all articles published were of the highest quality possible. The optical networking community has indeed lost 1 of its giants.
In Memoriam: Jane M. Simmons, 1963–2021. She was Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Optical Communications and Networking and a giant of the optical networking community for nearly three decades. Read about her legacy in a guest editorial, https://t.co/WDPfOeet3G
