As #2025RCMAfrica opens, i reminded the Africa major groups that the AMCEN we want is not built behind closed doors.
It starts here — with voices from across the continent, working together to shape Africa’s environmental future.
Our voice matters. Your voice matters. We reflect. We reimagine. We rise.

I am proud to present this video, which highlights the transformative work I led during my 2 years and 4 months as the leader of the Somali Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, from August 9, 2022, to January 5, 2025.
During this time, we laid the foundation for a lasting legacy, elevating the Ministry to a global standard, on par with its counterparts around the world. This achievement reflects our collective dedication to fostering sustainable progress and strengthening Somalia’s resilience in the face of climate challenges.
Always a pleasure briefing African Ambassadors in Nairobi on UNEPs work. Today’s briefing was about the outcomes of the Special Session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) and upcoming global Conference of parties in Riyadh, Baku, Cali and Busan
When disasters strike, they unleash enormous devastation on individuals, societies & economies.
Today, disasters are often supercharged by the climate crisis, increasing their frequency & intensity.
We owe it to future generations to shape a safer, more resilient tomorrow – on the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction & every day.
The @MoECC_Somalia, held a meeting to approve the NAP, chaired by Ministerof State Ahmed Omar, alongside Permanent Secretary Kamal Gutale & DG Yusuf Samatar. Attendees included officials from the Federal States, and UNDP. This plan will steer Somalia’s climate resilience efforts.
My highlight this week was speaking at the 18th Annual Meeting of the Environment for Development.
The Environment for Development is a leading global network of environmental economics research centers solving the world’s most pressing environmental and development challenges

The Increasing Death Toll of Corals: What It Means for Our Oceans The increasing death toll of corals is a stark reminder of the fragility of our oceans. The 97% mortality rate in the northern Great Barrier Reef is not just a statistic; it is a call to action. Protecting and restoring coral reefs is not only crucial for the health of marine ecosystems but also for the well-being of human communities that depend on them. The time to act is now, before the rainforests of the sea become a distant memory.

The Environmental Impact of War Crimes and the Urgent Need for Peace.War crimes not only devastate human lives and communities but also wreak havoc on our environment. The ecological destruction caused by warfare can have lasting, often irreversible effects on ecosystems, wildlife, and natural resources. Understanding these impacts underscores the urgent need to prevent war crimes and adhere to international peace agreements like the Geneva Conventions.https://t.co/ypZ1pnqhaa
The devastating floods that ravaged Southern Brazil between April and May 2024, resulting in 169 deaths and displacing nearly 600,000 people, have been linked to human-caused climate change, according to a new study. This disaster, intensified by El Niño and infrastructure failures, has highlighted the escalating impact of global warming on extreme weather events.https://t.co/4dFPOBOLTA via @LinkedIn
