A paper from 2008 co-authored by @yminsky on why Jane Street started using OCaml for a wide range of tasks: critical trading systems, quantitative research, systems software, and system administration.
Definitely worth a read. They discuss the various language features that gave them advantage in building trading systems with correctness, reliability, readability and safety. Also discusses some pitfalls of OCaml.
Would be interesting to revisit these points more than 15 years later.
