No fim da tarde de ontem a SpaceX conduziu um teste estático do Ship 25 com a ignição de todos os 6 Raptors.
Lembrando que esses motores foram instalados há 7 meses e ficaram todo esse tempo expostos ao calor e umidade do sul do Texas - e mesmo assim, funcionaram perfeitamente.
@Anderson041404 Como que o Elon chegou nesse valor de ~10% de carga útil adicional é um cálculo que eu gostaria muito de ver. Mas o motivo é esse - reduzir perdas por gravidade.
O Elon revelou ontem em um Twitter Spaces com o escritor @ashleevance que a estratégia de separação de estágios da Starship vai mudar completamente, e passar a usar uma abordagem conhecida como "hot-staging", ou separação quente em bom português.

Musk said SpaceX has made a "late-breaking" change to Starship/Super Heavy stage separation, switching to a hot-staging approach where the ship lights its engines while a few booster engines are still firing. He estimates a ~10% increase in payload performance with this.
@Anderson041404 Tradicionalmente, o primeiro estágio desliga seus motores seguido pela separação do segundo estágio, que só então liga seus motores.
Durante esse tempo em que ambos os estágios não estão acelerando, a gravidade continua atuando sobre ambos e "desacelerando" eles.
@brunodrade2 Os 6 motores são ligados na separação de estágios.
Na altitude em que os estágios são reparados, o Raptor atmosférico perde um pouco de eficiência. Mas ainda assim vale a pena ligar todos os 6 pra reduzir as perdas por gravidade.
Por outro lado, adiciona-se complexidade no quesito reusabilidade, já que agora o SuperHeavy também precisa ter um interestágio capaz de aguentar a ignição de 6 motores Raptor sem sofrer danos.

Na minha opinião, é uma mudança bastante interessante.
Por um lado, ganha-se carga útil e a capacidade de abortar um lançamento ligando os motores do segundo estágio caso o primeiro estágio sofra algum problema.
