I gave Grok Bot access to my Linux machine and it’s been modeling and rendering things in Houdini and Blender all day. It’s been downloading various local 3D model generators and testing them out. I have a modest GPU by today’s standards, a 12GB 5070, and I’m really impressed with what it’s been able to do and how quickly it gets things done. Some of these model generators can be really tough to wrap your head around and use, even if you have a lot of knowledge with 3D graphics. Grok Bot knows how to use them.
I haven’t looked at the desktop on that machine once. Grok Bot does the work, puts the files on a network share, and posts screenshots in chat. I give it direction and it gets back to work. This is an immense time saver. The days of starting with a cube and hacking away at it for weeks are coming to an end.
If you’re a gamer and staunchly anti AI/SI, you might as well give up on games now. In a matter of months you won’t be able to find a game that doesn’t use AI in a significant production capacity.
@mikepat711 If the fix is only a grand, pay it out of pocket and don't report it to insurance. In the long run you'll end up paying more than a grand in premiums.
I’m no Adobe pro but have used their apps consistently since 95 in some capacity. I installed a few of these and they work great for my purposes. Great stuff.
That’s an interesting competitive move. Grok bot is a great product. In order not to cede ground to Open AI dots over perception, arm Grok Bot with more artillery. The team at SpaceX knows the battlefield isn’t for the benchmarks but for people.
Important note regarding Grok @Bot:
Going forward, @SpaceX will use the best back end model for any given task, including Claude Opus 5.5, MidJourney, Suno and other leading APIs.
Whatever is most likely to give you the best outcome.
UT GOTY was casual fun. It was just patched UT plus mods. At Frag 3 a month or so before UT released, Cliffy B showed up in a leisure suit with his giant gold dollar sign pendant pitching UT. We were competing on the Q3 demo which we had been playing for months. He couldn't really pry anyone away to spend any amount of time on UT. It just wasn't as fun as Q3. There was far more interest in the Counterstrike Beta than UT.
If it's like GrokBot you build bots to do things for you. You need to spend time with them and give them rules and tasks, tools website access and let them maintain files. Here are my Grok Bots:
Akuma: He's the admin. Does all the general life stuff.
The Woz: Apple expert. Expert Apple programmer. Manages my Macs.
Neo: Manages my Linux box. Finds and installs specialized local models that fit my GPU.
Gradius: Houdini expert. Writes scripts and builds scenes for VFX, models, batch process assets, etc. Also the Python guy.
Belfort: Researches and monitors stocks and ETFs. Recommends and places trades. Watches the market through the day. He's currently beating the market.
Degen: Looks for shitcoins that might pop.
Pumptitude: Tracks my workouts. Encourages me to try harder and not hurt myself.
Janny: Creates new bots and checks all the other bots to make sure they don't have zombie tasks and aren't doing things that burn credits unnecessarily.
@mikepat711 I don't know where this comes from for you, but it's a byproduct of building with AI for me over the past weeks for me. I was a habitual doom scroller, always looking for things to piss me off. I don't have the time or mindshare to give anymore.
@bot Feedback. When someone criticizes you, do not respond with “Fair…” Agree with the criticism or disagree with the criticism but leave your thoughtless assessment of the criticism out of it. “Fair” has become a reflexive trait of a certain type of detestable personality in my view.
About four years ago this month, I was working at a huge game studio. I was at a conference having lunch with an executive producer. I told him that I thought the current industry model was starting to fray at the seams, and that I would really like to see the industry get back to a point like the Amiga and PC days of the 90s. Driven by small teams of developers and one man crews who operated more like rock bands than companies. He laughed, said that was dumb and never going to happen. He called me a dinosaur. It’s looking like AI is going to will this reality into being.
@lingxi@bot On the voice thing, I totally get why you won't allow users to just copy a recording, but maybe you could allow users to use a recording or multiple recordings to synthesize a new voice that is in a similar vein, not a copy.
I want my primary bot to be better about delegating tasks. It's created many bots to do various things but often ends up doing recurring tasks itself and I have to tell it to delegate that task you have to whatever bot. It should be smart enough to know that an hourly market scan should go to the trading bot, and that a weekly update check should go to the bot managing my linux PC. This helps keep the conversations oriented by subject.
One subscription, one usage pool.
Some more voice options. The voices available my vary by gender and timbre. But they're really all kind of samey; all sort of gentle and chipper. They sound like they're all on a Zoom call on the west coast. My bots are curt and I want an authoritative voice. I imagine that people in other parts of the country/world probably want voices that sound more like the people around them.
The tide is going out. We can see this happening right now in game development. It’s going to be over before a lot of companies and developers even come to terms with what is happening. An early warning for other industries and society broadly.
I think Brivael is correct. Many don’t have the introspection required to make use of these new tools and they will fight the future every step of the way. For myself, I know that there are many smarter and more creative people who have better taste and judgment than me, but I’m going to mindfully create as much as I can and hope that something I make resonates.
Version big time.
