When I wanted to leave my PhD program (which was often), therapist would point to his PhD in a plastic sleeve collecting dust “it’s not about having the degree, it’s about what having the degree allows you to do,” pointing to his framed license.

The university had my replacement ready less than 24 hours after I gave my resignation notice. My first PhD advisor DIED from chronic illness after his insurance was cut off when he was dismissed from the uni and they had me cover his classes. These institutions don’t care.

It’s been 3 months since mass protests began in Iran. Visible members of Kurdish communities are being targeted for speaking up. Folks in Kurdistan province have had their internet shut off intermittently for at least the past 2 months. It’s been hard to reach our family there.
