Home to communities including the Mundas, Santhals, Sardars and Oraons, the wetlands reflect a deep cultural connection with nature. Among the Munda community, the Karam festival celebrates the bond between people and the natural world through the worship of the Karam tree, accompanied by traditional songs and dances that pray for a bountiful harvest.

Those who try to harm the future of our youth will not be spared.

पेपर लीक के सभी मामलों में दोषियों को जल्द से जल्द कठोर दंड देने के लिए, केस के त्वरित निस्तारण के लिए फास्ट ट्रैक कोर्ट्स का गठन किया जाएगा। इस संबंध में निर्देश दे दिए गए हैं कि संबंधित विभाग आवश्यक कार्रवाई सुनिश्चित करें।

Shri Ramesh Pandey, ADG (Wildlife), MoEFCC, and the Focal Point for the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) in India, chaired a technical meeting with representatives of the CMS Dugong Secretariat, Abu Dhabi, to review the progress and activities being undertaken under the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation and Management of Dugongs and Their Habitats. The Focal Point for the CMS Dugong MoU in India - IGF (Wildlife), MoEFCC - was also present in the meeting.

Scientists from the Wildlife Institute of India (@wii_india) made a presentation on the dugong conservation initiatives undertaken in India over the past decade, including studies on dugong ecology, population monitoring and estimation, habitat conservation and community engagement. The presentation highlighted the important role of local communities in advancing dugong conservation efforts.

The Chair welcomed the proposal for India to host the Fourth Meeting of Signatories to the CMS Dugong MoU and suggested the way forward in this regard. Shri Pandey also emphasized the need for more frequent interactions among the Signatory States to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experiences and best practices.

Highlighting that collective action would strengthen dugong conservation efforts, Shri Pandey appreciated the valuable contributions of WII scientists. He observed that the scientific insights and field-level experience gained in India could contribute meaningfully to the global framework for dugong conservation.

Today's #RamsarSpotlight takes us to Ropar in Punjab.

Ropar occupies a special place in Sikh and Indian history. Nearby Anandpur Sahib is where Guru Gobind Singh Ji established the Khalsa on Baisakhi in 1699 and baptised the first Panch Pyaras.

The wetland is also linked to the historic Treaty of 1831, making it a landscape where history and heritage come together.

Delighted to have met with UNFCCC Executive Secretary Mr Simon Stiell in New Delhi today.

We had an engaging discussion on important agenda items with particular focus on adaptation, technology transfer, climate finance, global stocktake, and just transition.

Equipped with a 1200 kW hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system, the 10-coach train emits only water vapour, showcasing India’s commitment to sustainable innovation and self-reliance.

With indigenous hydrogen storage and refuelling infrastructure at Jind, India joins the global leaders advancing green rail technology—driving the vision of #AatmanirbharBharat and a cleaner, net-zero future.

Revered as Loktak Ima (Mother Loktak), the lake holds a sacred place in the hearts of the Meitei people. According to legend, the Supreme Goddess Ima Leimarel transformed herself into the lake to become part of creation. Over centuries, Loktak has inspired folklore, rituals and the celebrated love story of Khamba and Thoibi, making it a living symbol of Manipuri culture.
