@Sabreline1@MeathGuerilla And yet we have 20000 homeless people, and almost a million living in poverty. Third level education costs €20000 and first and second level €5000. The poor may get mediocre healthcare after years on waiting lists for free, it is true, but the wealthy have far better access.
@Sabreline1@MeathGuerilla It isn't about being free. It's about being paid for fairly so that the poor have a right to healthcare, housing, water and education the same as everyone else. Which, if I may remind you, are fundamental human rights agreed upon by the UN.
The whole purpose of this bill, is that the Irish law now allows the government to break international law, where previously it could not. If the government does not intend to break international law, this bill has no purpose.
@ThomasByrneTD Because without a UN mandate it isn't peace keeping. That's the whole point.
You can call it peace enforcement if you want but it's an illegal intervention, just like the US invasion of Iraq which you facilitated.
@spinelessaisha@42Phoenix_ Yeah, there is very little pressure to use the best items, which gives you lots of freedom to mess about. Though the items are pretty well balanced anyway mostly.
(did you see what solarlight did with demoknight in comp?).
@ApexNoticer@realcleanbrr Thing is, we're Irish!
Like, did he not read our history books?
What caused the famine? Laissez-faire capitalism!
Does he know ANYTHING Thatcher did to us??
@Konstantillo@realcleanbrr On your initial point, could you give me an example of an innovation?
Secondly, I don't understand how exactly competition increases innovation, as the working class has no stake in corporate profits, and I have my doubts about the positive effect stress has on productivity.
@Konstantillo@realcleanbrr Innovations(including scientific advances and invention) occur when experts have the resources and incentive to do it. Wars don't drive innovation or create economic growth. They force the government to manage vital sectors and invest heavily in them, which causes advances.
@BelfastBranch I have read it, and it is a very well written and insightful book. One of the best books I have read regarding the history of Ireland's current economic system.
@Kitty08OW@WBATDM@jruddy99@ecigjuiced 'x is bad' isn't some statement which can be backed by international law. He is calling for the reversal of all death penalties regarding these events so the natural assumption would be that he thinks they are bad, would it not be?
