An algorithm just denied your mortgage. You ask why. Nobody can tell you.
That's the defining problem of the AI era — not whether machines can decide, but whether we can trust them when they do. 🧵
AI can write reports, generate code, analyse contracts and answer customer queries.
So here's the question nobody can avoid: if AI can do your job, what will you do?
A thread on the future of work 🧵
For leaders, three actions matter now:
1. Know what data you collect and why
2. Prioritise transparency to build trust
3. Treat data stewardship as governance — not IT
If you can't explain how your org uses data, that's your signal to act.
The big tech giants are data companies in disguise.
Facebook sells your behaviour. Google maps your intentions. Even Apple sits on how you live.
The asset was never the app. It's you.
Historically, power was built on land, labour and capital.
Today, data has joined that list.
An AI model isn't valuable because of its algorithm — it's valuable because of the vast data it's trained on. No data, no power.
Data isn't like physical property.
A single supermarket visit creates: your purchase record, your loyalty history, CCTV footage of your face, and data held by the payment platform.
You? The store? Stripe? The camera vendor? There's a real argument for each.
Who owns your data?
If you buy a car, you own it. Simple. But data can be copied, shared and analysed by many parties at once. So when your face hits a supermarket CCTV — who owns that?
The answer is far less clear than anyone assumes. 🧵
