Not sure if any med ed folks are on here anymore but wanted to celebrate a publication in Medical Science Educator! “Crafting Evidence-Based Academic Presentations: Practical Guidelines for Medical Science Educators”

@stephmurrayyyy Love my village! East Side of Providence RI, dense walkable neighborhood. No kids when we moved in (I was 7 months pregnant with our first)- at our high the block had 23 kids! They ABSOLUTELY got us through the pandemic ♥️
@oldandrewuk Everyone needs to learn the magic that is “advanced” slide share, “share part of screen.” KEY for those moments when presenter view fails you but you still want to see your notes!
@brent_waggoner YES. Proud public school parent. The hand-wringing is intense, especially in an urban area like mine. But EVERY TIME I actually go into my kids’ schools I am impressed by the teachers and the students.
@ThePhDPlace Maybe. I think this kind of guidance usually comes from the business/marketing world where they’re talking about one pithy statement on a beautiful photo background. Not possible with complex, dense content #MedEd Not always the goal as educators.
@rbarbosa91@karimbrohi And what’s even worse than reading notes is riffing on something completely unrelated to the slide while the audience desperately tries to figure out what’s going on!
Our standards for academic presentations are too low. It’s not enough to shrug & complain about death by PowerPoint. We need to expect more from ourselves & others. #Presentationskills#presentationdesign Let’s celebrate great presentations & presenters! 🥳
I have blasphemous feelings about learning objectives in #MedEd. They don’t need to be a slide in every #presentation. They are essential for YOU as the educator. Not so much for the audience.
@GTavernetti I like this. I think of it (hook or anchor) as a connection between the content & the learner. Making relevance explicit. Answering the “why should I care” (or perhaps the “how is this related to what I already know”) question.
Up for promotion but having trouble getting teaching evaluations? Make a brief eval form yourself & put the QR code to it in the last slide of every presentation you do #facultydevelopment#facultyaffairs#presentations
Still hate hybrid sessions. If the presenter is in a room in - person with some folks, others online have a sub-par experience. Tell me I’m wrong. #teachingandlearning#presentations
