Warm greetings, I've contributed to Antennae's issue #63, with my essay 'Qu(e)ercus robur: Orlando and the Oak Tree'. In it I explore the presence of an #oak in Virginia Woolf's novel #Orlando through a #queer#ecology lens: https://t.co/dr9INbOVDP.
Echoing @jsdjukes's sentiments here. Lovely to reach such a milestone. For more on oak trees and queer approaches, specifically in relation to Woolf's Orlando (for my new followers), my paper titled 'Que(e)rcus robur' is here: https://t.co/NOiB4oprZb ๐ณ
My second article for the year (!!) has been published by @whitehorsepress. Ruminations on how concepts of #plantintelligence can be integrated into photographic practice. Read for a convergence of #oak trees, artistic #sustainability & alternative #photographic practice.
We've published a new fast track article in 'Plant Perspectives', being Epha J. Roe on 'Photographic Phytography: Towards a Photographic Re-Centring of the Oak Tree within Theory, Material and Practice'; #OpenAccess here: https://t.co/cRhG3tT8cF #plants#oaktree#photography
@TheKentAcorn Hi there, I'm curious, where did you hear about Elizabeth I having lunch under the canopy? All the sources I have for the tree's naming are about her shooting a deer underneath it (the tree is part of a research project of mine so I'm interested where this other story came from).
@simon_schama Just Stop Oil have made several public statements that their focus on art is targeted to get attention and to generate a conversation around why paintings, in this instance, are more valued than human life. It's actually their awareness of art's value that forms their intention.
@MelanieKKing @Joya_AiR Huge, huge congratulations, Melaine. From someone who has had a lot of mental health 'stuff' to contend with, particularly in the early stages of the PhD, I really empathise with this. It's a massive achievement! ๐
As someone with Israeli friends, both Jewish and Arab, this sums up many if not all of my thoughts and feelings over the last few weeks. I'm glad to hear this articulated among the vocal, written & literal rubble that often makes up "the fog of war".
The fog of war lies thick all around. Itโs so hard to sort out pebbles of fact from mountains of propaganda.
But hereโs one thing I know: Iโm just appalled.
Appalled by what Hamas unleashed: the slaughter of civilians, homes drenched in terror and raw vengeance. 1/8
@DrAdamBrett @ThePhDPlace@AcademicChatter Hi Adam, I'm a PhD student researching how photographic methods can incorporate ideas of vegetal-intelligence to shift human-plant relations and think about how creative practice can be collaborative, rather than just extractive.
