@cdnLA0WW0Su2kNn@z9alph To an ordinary person, this kind of practice is impractical cause if someone comes at you with a knife, it's better to just run or call the cops. If you're learning self defense, you should expect the unexpected cause in real combat, very few would care about forms and stuff.
Sometimes you're left alone with your thoughts and all you can think of is 'my life sucks'. Why? Because 'the times are rough'. And finally you conclude with the realization that if things continue as they are(which it probably will), 'the world is cooked'.
@wooser0@mangaa Very likely traced =/= traced. Though some mangakas use some tracing techniques in their workflow from time to time, faces aren't where it's usually done. Besides, the two faces both share many characteristics that seem more like a stylistic choice than what you see in reality.
@davenovella@mangaa Yea, digital tools made many things that weren't possible before a possibility(like the infinite zoom artworks with grains of sand containing a whole world or something). I'm just saying a skilled professional artist would be able to pull off something similar with enough time.
@wooser0@mangaa You did call it 'traced', which it probably isn't(I'm pretty sure it isn't, but I'll you give the benefit of the doubt). Besides, even if done for simplicity's sake, it is still a misinformation for people who don't know how the art process works. So an explanation is warranted.
@IrasReal We can laugh at him, but we've all done dumb things as kids. Even as adults, well, if adults were always smart, the world wouldn't be the mess it is now.
@davenovella@mangaa Digital tools do help to fine tune the details, but this kind of affect can also be achieved traditionally. for example, look up Bernie Wrightson's Frankenstein. There are also many other pen and ink artist way before digital era who could achieve this level through practice.
@mangaa The answer is not talent, but a LOOOOOT of practice. like seven to eight hours each day. Especially the kind of hatching done in this art takes time, patience, and attention. Talent won't get you there. You need to pay a lot to get that kind of skill.
@wooser0@mangaa This isn't really photo realistic. It's pretty stylized. I know plenty of artists who can achieve this level of realism without tracing or grids. Besides, as someone who leans towards stylized art, I think photo realism can also be good art. It depends on a case to case basis.
