Uganda Recorded 2 Million Births in 2025, But Health Services Aren't Keeping Up — PS Atwine

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Diana Atwine has revealed that in 2025, there were 2million babies born in Uganda, although the number would be higher at around 3million, hadn’t it been to those lost to death.

She made the revelation while appearing before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), during the scrutiny of the December 2025 Auditor General’s report, where she admitted that the growth in population isn’t being matched with the growth in health services.

We have confirmed an outbreak of Sudan Ebola Virus Disease in Kampala, Uganda, following verification from three National Reference Laboratories. The index case, a 32 year old male nurse from Mulago NRH, sought treatment at multiple facilities but our rapid response teams are fully deployed, contact tracing is underway, and all necessary measures are in place to contain the situation. We assure the public that we are in full control.
