As someone who films multiple videos over the weekend, let’s talk about filming days, shall we?

If I know I have multiple scripts to record, this is a system I was recently introduced to in my mentorship.

📍 Room A: Group every script I’m filming in this setup
📍 Room B: Move once, then film everything planned here
📍 Room C: Finish the remaining scripts in the final setup

Before filming, I figure out where I have the best lighting and assign my scripts to each room accordingly.

Instead of bouncing between different areas of my home all day, I can knock out everything in Room A, then move to B, then C.

It’s a small bit of planning that makes my weekend filming days feel much more organized.

My talking-head footage is always a complete version of the script.

Even when I know certain sections will probably be covered with B-roll, I still record every single line on camera.

It gives me way more flexibility once I start editing. If I have enough B-roll, amazing, I can layer it in wherever it makes the creative stronger. If I don’t, the full video is already there and I’m not going back to re-film anything.

I’d rather build options into my filming process than try to fix missing pieces in the edit.

My admin trick when the to-do list starts looking a little scary: I start with the 5-minute task.

Getting one quick thing off my plate gives me enough momentum to move onto the task that needs 20 minutes, then the one that needs an hour.

Starting with the biggest thing usually leaves me staring at the whole list feeling overwhelmed, so I work my way up instead. Small wins get me moving, and moving gets the list done.

Nothing tests your creative process quite like having a clock on it.

Yesterday, in AHA mentorship scripting call turned into breakout rooms where we had to script, film, and edit together within a set amount of time.

At first, I genuinely wasn’t sure we’d finish. But working through the process together showed me how much collaboration sharpens creative thinking, and how differently you manage your time when there’s no room to overthink every decision. What felt difficult at the start became completely doable once we got moving.

Sometimes the best way to build creative confidence is to work with the time you have, make decisions faster, and trust the process.

Apparently the car is a perfectly acceptable studio when the @hm deals are this good. 😂

I got home, parked the car, looked at everything I’d bought and thought… yeah, we’re doing this right here.

So I propped up my phone and filmed the haul before I even made it inside.

And honestly, I love creating product content like this. No elaborate setup, no perfect location, just the product, a camera and my actual reaction while it’s still fresh.

Sometimes the edit tells me more than the actual shoot does.

I recorded a personal branding video on a day when I wasn’t feeling my best. When I watched it back, I could tell my energy wasn’t coming through naturally.

I reshot it when I was feeling more like myself, and the difference was immediate. I recorded it faster, my delivery felt more natural, and the content felt more like me.

Personal branding is personal for a reason. The energy I bring on camera matters just as much as what I’m saying.
