They don't even establish spatial relation bet'n the station and this quieter place. (Pretty sure they shot it in 2 entirely diff locations.) It's primarily achieved through the wireless radio conversation and the peripheral elements of a station like tracks, fences, gates, etc.
Not so busy and much more of a measured mix of quiet build-up and action but love the geography in this scene in KURUTHIPPUNAL. Action cuts between the crowded railway station and a bylane of sorts leading to a quiet place with a jungle-ish hideaway feel.

Mysskin has multiple great chase scenes in his body of work, albeit with transport vehicles. He has at least one involving each kind, I believe.
With just running, I suppose MUGAMOODI has one fantastic chase sequence when the hero first takes on the masked thieves?
I see BANDAR is getting strong reviews like it's Anurag Kashyap's return to form. But I also realise I have fully disconnected rom his promise, so to speak. Feels strictly OTT.
@curiousgeek123 True, like "என்ன மறந்தேன்" song a lot. The love track was also interesting in how casual/liberal-coded and urban it was but it was also the weak turn for the film as it gained more prominence in the 2nd half...
Just randomly reminded that two of AR Murugadoss's assistant directors made quite effective modest/low-key action thrillers in 2013: IVAN VERAMATHIRI (sophomore) and VATHIKUCHI (debut). Both had a casually grimy touch that made them contenporary while being disarmingly masala.
.. the reason why this didn't take a bigger shape. But nevertheless, enough good strokes for them to be recalled a decade later.
Of course, from that time, Tamil cinema has gone on to do *much better* in serious sociopolitical cinema. But the two can coexist, I'd argue.
Murugadoss was doing something right, I believe, which engendered films like these. But this didn't really thrive beyond such one-offs. The movies themselves not really cracking it proper (leads for starters, though I found the aloof Vikram Prabhu effective enough) is probably..
@himsini Sorry for gemini-ing this but I suddenly got keen to cook up some terms. The ones in first section look legit. Of course, it starts with facilitators, which you said is very much the practice. But academic leaders and thereabouts have good potential! Growth managers too!
@himsini Students have long come to be referred to as learners in my kid's school! Education leader for teachers looks like a very formidable proposition.
The other day I saw snatches of MUMBAIKAR, directed by Santosh Sivan, no less. Such a far cry from MAANAGARAM the whole exercise is laughable. So flat and absolutely flavourless. This what a director does to a subject (of course, in this case, his own subject).
Subash K Raj is clearly inspired by Lokesh Kanagaraj?
One of the things I resent in today's Tamil film social media is how a thorough trailblazer like Lokesh is ridiculed as if he is some kind of one-hit wonder or a fluke. And to that extent, I totally await his return.
Thinking of mass moments after watching BLAST trailer. Which led me to some really well done moments of LUBBER PANDHU (started with the girl's boundary and not Gethu!).
And I go back to ruing the title change they had to do for whatever reason. The original title was.. KAATTAAN!
