This exists, it's machine psychology. But limited: lots of methods depend on background assumptions not always true of models

Regarding all the excitement and fear about AI, here's a different angle than usual: what if we tried to assess the intelligence of AI models by analyzing them the way we study animal and infant intelligence, using methods that psychologists have carefully developed?
