I am happy to share with you our recently published results on the plastic behavior of Earth's core! 🌍🔬In close collaboration with @desynews and @WWU_HighPress.

The @esrfsynchrotron may be on its winter shutdown, but the @ERC_LECOR team is pressing on with experiments! This time, we’re at @desynews with @WWU_HighPress, exploring the deformation of planetary cores. 🌍🔬
The @esrfsynchrotron Science and Students days during this week were a great success! With two excellent contributions from the @ERC_LECOR team George Aprilis and Susanne Müller!
Tuesday was the last day of the long double beamtime at the @esrfsynchrotron. Also, the first experiments of the @ERC_LECOR team at the fully refurbished after the #EBS upgrade ID14 beamline. With great help from colleagues from @WWU_HighPress and @BGeoinstitut.
After several days of preparations and attempts the very challenging experiment of the @ERC_LECOR team finally worked at the last night. The deformation of core materials at P02.2 of @desynews provided unique data for understanding the plastic properties of planetary cores!
A demanding week has come to an end. At the first iteration of the Long-Term Proposal project at ID28, we managed to collect IXS data of iron compounds at high pressure, while laser heating! @Geo_ESRF@esrfsynchrotron#ERC
New science with EBS.
To kick off the ESRF 81st Council, two young ESRF scientists have presented their research projects based on the capabilities of EBS.
- Ilya Kupenko @ERC_Research#geosciences
- Marta Mirolo @RemadeatARI#circulareconomy
Congratulations to them!
The core of the🌍is mainly composed of iron and nickel, along with 5-10% of unknown lighter elements.
Meet Ilya Kupenko @ERC_LECOR , @ERC_Research grantee trying to identify these elements using high pressure and temperature at the ESRF.
