This summer I dry aged a whole prime rib. I’ve done a whole strip loin too. 60 days using Umai Dry bag. The result is amazing. 10/10 recommend.

If you’re wondering “how it’s going,” it’s like this: today was my dad’s funeral. It was really hard.

Then the city of Chicago decided to pay its respects by towing my car (I maintain I was in a totally legal spot!). So I’m sitting at the city pound paying cash (“because you aren’t the owner of the vehicle but you have the same last name and the same address we can release the car to you - the only thing is you have to pay cash”) and waiting for the car.

Thanks City of Chicago! And thanks pound employee for letting me pay cash! Thanks especially for only getting a little offended when I noticed that you only gave me $5 change for the $200 I proffered. Super silly of me to expect correct change! Super great experience!

Went to dinner at Tre Dita for the second time. Still packed and still a tough table to get. It was... fine. I don't get the hype (Lettuce Entertain You?).

Nothing was overtly bad. But nothing was spectacular. The prices are high to downright egregious (steak for the table - admittedly there were 4 of us - was $240 and we were told to order 2-3 pastas in addition to it). I don't love the room either (my wife called it 'very 80s'), though I acknowledge that others may have a different opinion.

Anyway - I won't be fighting for another reservation anytime soon.

End of summer staycation at @stregishotels Chicago.

Kids start school on Monday so thought we’d sneak away for air show weekend.

Really attractive hotel. Enormous rooms with great views - photo below is view from our room straight down Lake Shore Drive. One of the best hotel gyms I’ve been to (and I go to a lot of hotels). Plus there’s a pool - which not every city hotel has.
