#JMUMustech here is a slight addition to percussion instruments for kids who can’t grip the sticks or mallets. It is just a easy add on strap that is tight enough so it won’t fall off and will allow them to play so many more instruments and not be so limited by there disability.

@alicehammel do you think it would be more beneficial if you were to have a separate band class for kids with special needs? Allowing them the opportunity as everyone else but giving them more time and freedom to explore instruments.

@alicehammel what would you suggest doing when you have a kid who is very far onto the special needs spectrum physically and mentally who wants to participate in music. How would you incorporate him even if he is struggling with each instrument? #JMUMusTech

@GraceMead16 I think technology is slowly starting to replace instruments as time moves on. I think that the more advanced music technology gets the likely good of certain instrument or voicings will be taken away and be replaced by technology.

@jgrimsleyjmu I think they should get exposure both ways. If you heavily base your teaching s on one of the other they won’t have that equal mindset and same understanding of both when going into college or just further in life.

@GwynethTerry7 Also assigning assignments where they have to give you 2-3 pieces that they think they should play in the ensemble with reasons why then you’re helping them gain the knowledge and exposure.

@GwynethTerry7 I think one way that would help with this is exposure. We may not be able to control what the listen to outside of the classroom but, can control what they listen to in the classroom. Making them listen to classical music in the classroom is the easiest way to control it.

@MatthewMee9 I think it can be incorporated in through music theory. It’s not complicated music to break down but it’s a good starting spot for young beginners learning about simple chord progressions.

@JYagerline I think that the students should become decently good at there instrument before the start trying to compose or look at music technology. I think if they try to early they will only confuse themselves. I think a year or two is just enough time.

@BagayJohanna I think it’s very important for music educators to have knowledge of music technology. Especially now that so many parts of the music world evolve around that technology. Plus is he has kids interested in composing he needs to be able to help them no matter what software.

@Jesse_Rathgeber My main question is why they didn’t start off making the instrumentation work across different platforms? Were they just trying to see if MIDI would work with one platform first and then slowly make it work between different platforms. If that makes sense

Why didn’t the creators of MIDI create it with the capabilities to produce sounds as well as the capability to be performed on two different devices with the same instrumentation when they first created it? #JMUMustech
