Google’s obsession with making split view a thing in Chrome is a perfect example of how tech is no longer “fun.” Bunch of annoying busybodies pushing things on the user we didn’t ask for.
The irony is that film as a major cultural force is also dead. Jerry Seinfeld said this recently and he was right. I know a lot of young people and almost none of them watch movies unless they’re in showbiz themselves.
During a road trip with my dad, I asked what it was like growing up when classic rock was new. When you went out they were playing CCR, The Beatles, Clapton, etc. Must have been cool.
He said yeah well there was a lot of shitty music then too, but no one remembers that stuff.
@shagbark_hick Both sides of my family have relocated regularly for several generations. I suspect the kind of people who migrate to America in the first place are more likely to be less rooted, and it runs in families.
I used to wonder why everyone clumps up at the airport gate even though their zone hasn’t been called. Today I looked at this guy’s ticket, watched him go through. I followed.
They don’t even check what zone you are. They don’t care.
It’s funny, when I research restrictive diets like AIP or SCD, they warn it’s not for long-term due to low variety and inadequate nutrition, yet these diets have more variety and nutritional content than the slop most people already eat.
@rif_yaseen 1000%. It becomes a vicious cycle. Fortunately, there’s a lot we can do to dig back out of the hole, in turn reverse the isolation and turn it into a virtuous cycle again.
What he thinks he’s seeing here is a chemistry that’s common between directors and actors. The film “Living in Oblivion” has a whole subplot about this.
@Mangan150 I’ve seen arguments pro and against for years on here, have yet to see something that truly settled the question for me either way. I don’t supplement it anymore but I eat sardines a couple times a week and try not overthink it.
I may be replacing my ancient Sony mirrorless camera, as I’m getting more gigs lately. Took it to the store to compare with current models. Camera size bloat is crazy. The same model as mine, two generations later, dwarfs it.
@BonesawMD I have a friend like this. All around great guy. From time to time people privately express exactly this, “I don’t like that guy, he thinks he’s all that.” I always felt that if you can back it up, which he can, what’s the problem. I always back him up in those moments too.
@brainenergy4me I mean… it’s nice when they do say something. When I quit weed, one lifelong friend said “I feel like the old Eric is back” and I needed to hear that.
I don’t know how people perceive the broccoli hair as looking good, I think it looks terrible on most dudes. One of those ultra-dated styles every generation has that their children will mercilessly laugh at.
The zoomer “perm” haircut is insanely popular around world and in some places all white or white-presenting zoomers now have it, and it’s very much a looksmaxing move …but it’s cosmetic trickery much like short pixie haircut trick is for some women. It’s a trick…
@BonesawMD Learned this lesson the hard way in one of my first jobs out of college. Coworkers mastered the art of looking busy while getting nothing done, I did the opposite and paid the price.
@Pat_Stedman From what I can tell, most women also have a dead social life by 30 nowadays too, sad state of society. I’ve worked hard at this and currently have a more active social life than I did in 2019 pre covid. Not easy but it can be done.
@shagbark_hick This reminds me of something Louis CK once said about comedy, he had to keep drawing from deeper personal wells to feed his audience. But social media feels thankless; I don’t feel comfortable getting personal or sharing my personal life out here. It’s just a bottomless abyss.
