I am really looking forward to speaking on the 14 May @RLI_News panel on deserters/draft evaders and refugee law- with Dr Sara Arapiles, Professor Özgür Heval Çınar, and eminent Canadian lawyer Lorne Waldman. Live at Senate House, Bloomsbury, or online.
In this thought-provoking piece for EJIL: Talk!, @EricFripp examines the finding of the European Court of Human Rights that forced imposition of Russian citizenship in Crimea breaches Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

And this is right too. Time to salute the police. Farage, Braverman, Musk and the whole right wing crew talking about two tier policing are contemptible. Instead of sniping, we should salute police heroes who saw off thugs

Under Tories, ministers joined baying mobs condemning lawyers & creating hatred.
I posted this in 2022. I think this is unlikely to happen because I have a feeling Labour won’t want to burn valuable political capital on what might feel like a niche issue. But that doesn’t change the fact that this is the right thing to do.
Neal Katyal and I discussed the Supreme Court's unforgivable decision in Trump v. United States with the Kettering Foundation's Brad Rourke last week. There are already calls for a constitutional amendment to overturn the decision, as there should be.
@DLPublicLaw seeks support for an important challenge to maintenance of legal aid fees set in 1996- low then and a critical reason for paucity of good representation now. Also an important determinant as to whether the late Government's huge asylum backlog can now be addressed.
We represent six claimants in these judicial review proceedings and were scheduled to have several of our legal representatives flying to the remote island to attend the hearing in person at Diego Garcia, prior to US intervention. The case continues.
