An exceptionally rare find in Marojejy NP on 5th Oct - Liophidium pattoni. Since 2010 there have been only 7 photographic records of this stunning snake across Madagascar and our lucky find marks the second ever in Marojejy (the first being in 2023)!!

Join us this spring, summer, and early autumn to explore the remote Scottish Highlands in search of some of the most prized species of Odonata in the UK. Expect superb wildlife, stunning views, and homemade cakes! Email us at [email protected] for availability.
A walk up Tom A Choinnich (Glen Affric) with @erichens11 & @TommySaunders19 gave stunning panoramic views, 15 Ptarmigans, 3 Ring Ouzels and most surprisingly, 3 Twite. Superb! Lots of bird ringing in our garden today too 😄
Beinn Eighe Mountain Trail with @CalumUrquhart1 and a good find of various Liverworts including Northern Prongwort, which is actually rare in the UK, only being found here!
Excellent day birding with cracking Golden Eagle action, a ringtail over my head, my first Willow Warbler and Redstart of ‘25 and this stunning freshly-emerged Emperor moth!!
A cracking weekend away along and above our favourite loch – Loch Maree! A certain question was asked (and accepted) here, before camping and then ascending Slioch (981m)! Couldn’t have asked for a better weekend alongside my wife to be! Ring Ouzels, Golden Eagles etc also seen.
Our three full days along the wildlife-rich waterways of the Kinabatangan (Borneo) now on the blog: Matt Eade's Blog: Borneo - Part 2 (Kinabatangan River): December 2024
I love this trio of Corn Buntings - I wonder what they were gazing at…perhaps the sun?
After declines in recent decades, it was great to see sizeable flocks in Aberdeenshire, a sign they are doing well in some areas.
A fantastic view of my first Green-winged Teal (centre) after work today with @_MattEade, photographed just before it flew off. A lovely end to a day where I also had a fab Merlin sighting!
A beautiful day on the west coast, with at least 25 GN Divers, 6 BT Divers and 15 Purple Sandpipers, as well as a lovely male Hen Harrier I was very pleased to spot! The day finished with a spontaneous dip in the loch & a cracking Six Nations match!
There are few better places than the Western Cape. After watching many Bryde’s Whales in False Bay, the Betty’s Bay area was as usual prolific in bird life, including Cape Sugarbirds everywhere! We’re going for a big day list tomorrow to finish our time away. #SouthAfrica
A brief day on Cape Point before transferring to Durban tomorrow for the Flock resulted in lots of species, all of which I saw on my very first foreign trip with @cw_glanfield in 2011, but mostly all new for Em.
With working in Stirling this week, it made complete sense to twitch the drake Smew at Broadwood Loch in Clyde today – my first for many years now they’re next to impossible in S England. The icy loch also drew many Goosander close to the banks.
Hawfinches made an excellent start to our first day home in the Scottish Highlands! Also 250+ Scaup, Slavonian Grebes, RT Divers, Eiders, LT ducks and plenty of PF geese!
Borneo must be one of the most conflicting places I’ve visited - the incredible diversity of life juxtaposes the clinical monoculture of Oil Palm which borders most of the protected forest here. Orangutans are not just a draw for tourists but a keystone species we must protect.
But it's not all about the birds, 2024 was also incredible for a host of other wildlife: Whale Shark off St. Helena, Western Lowland Gorilla in Gabon, Indri in Madagascar, Western Tarsier in Borneo.
Other highlights being Banded Linsang, Mandrill, Crowned Guenon etc.
