I help people leverage technology to tell stories to live audiences in theme parks, museums, live theatre, cruise ships, stadiums, and experience centers.
@chris_neto 8K/16k and larger resolutions and 10/12 bit 4:4:4 color are (for the moment) reserved for specialty displays that purposely give audiences something they don’t get at home.
Think about getting all those extra pixels delivered to the display and tell me it’s worth it. #avintheam
@coreh@mynamebedan The Exosphere has a much lower resolution. Each pixel is 8 inches from the next one, but the challenge is that the pixels are not arranged in a neat grid, so there is some mad pixel remapping going on to take a coherent source image and make it work on the display.
@21five_public@mynamebedan The one in Burbank is 1/4 size in terms of physical size, but it's full resolution of the Vegas Sphere. The pixels are much tighter but they can't do the immersive sound in Burbank because there's no room between pixels for the sound to get through.
@coreh@mynamebedan WAAAAY more than 5x 4Kx4K. The media plane's resolution is about 19,000 x 13,500 pixels, but there are a lot of pixels "thrown away" to make the concave geometry of the dome work, so the video signals include some wasted pixels.
@jamesxlawrence@mynamebedan Not custom hardware. The 7thSense servers and pixel processors are used in theme parks, museums, visitors centers, etc. The media is of course custom, and the cameras required to capture it were an invention of MSG's.
@kanevato@mynamebedan It can run Unreal/Unity/Notch for generative media, but it is also capable of multiple layers of 60fps frame-based playback streamed from a ridiculously fast NAS system, compositing in live feeds from cameras...it's a pretty sick system!
@mynamebedan Hey @mynamebedan it's a lot of servers and pixel processors working in sync. The media can be created at full resolution and then carved out to full-resolution "slices" or if it is generative content, the correct viewpoint of that server's slice is used. All streamed from NAS.
@Acion_Next @lyallmarcus@shamanic_arts@mynamebedan Hi @Acion_Next, 7thSense is the house system at Sphere, and part of the system is the ability to bring in feeds from other sources, like production trucks or media servers from touring systems.
