@CodifyBaseball If their whining and moaning about the zone in recent years is any indication, I would expect them to lose their challenges by the 5th in most games. But they are savages in the box though, right?
@cfargis@strassa2@Matt_Matros Solid book. I play just a couple big tournaments a year, and I find a quick re-read of this beforehand (I have it on Kindle), just gets me back in the mindset where I need to be.
@stroshq@Gabbagool33@kylanjonesjones@michaelschwab13 Money paid in the future is worth less. The $40M/yr that will eventually be paid out is valued by MLB as $30M/yr. Don't know how long its deferred, but $1 paid out 10 years from now will be worth ~$0.75.
@stroshq@kylanjonesjones@michaelschwab13 The deferral makes the $40m worth $30m/yr in PV. And take another $1.5m/yr off for MA state income tax. so he gave up 3 more guaranteed yrs at $26m for $2.5m more/yr. He'll be going into his age 34 season when this deal comes up. He won't get another $71M+ for age 34-36 seasons.
@michaelschwab13 Stros offered $26m/yr for 6 yrs. The Sox deal is $30m/yr for 3 yrs after accounting for deferred $. Then there is the 5% MA income tax, which takes it down at least another $1-1.5M/yr . Leaving the Astros and not having 3 more contract years was worth an extra $2.5-3M/yr? C'mon.

You can get gas for as low as $1.99/gallon in Texas right now. Some Buc-ee's are as low as $2.20.
@michaelschwab13 Brandon Belt is still sitting out there as a FA. He's a lefty that hit RHPs to a tune of a .890 OPS just last year. Seems like he could be had for not too much $$$ at this point.
@LarryTheGMman I completely realize this. The $39MM is a sunk cost. The negative WAR he is contributing can be stopped. One WAR is like $5.5 MM. He is on pace to cost $50 in negative WAR this year alone.
@merik2008@CodifyBaseball But see…Beltran was one of the masterminds of the scheme and actually used the system and cheated. Altuve didn’t use the system and I think everyone actually in baseball knows that (despite the ignorant boos).
@CodifyBaseball I think much of this has to do with FG basing their #s on A team’s CURRENT roster, while FD (the market) is pricing in the fact that playoff teams will get better and teams out of contention will get worse as the season progresses.
@CodifyBaseball Considering that a team of Trouts would have had to forfeit 13 more games than a team of Cabreras, I think that more than offsets the 4.8 difference in WAR. Team of Cabreras FTW.
@cfargis I had never heard of this band or this album. Listened to it on my walk this morning. You know that feeling when you listen to an album for the first time that you really like? Doesn’t happen to me all that often anymore. Thanks!
