I've covered box office results literally hundreds of times in my career. The mind-blowing success of "Backrooms" and "Obsession" this weekend easily ranks in the top 1% as far as long-term significance for the movie business. My story w/ @johnjurg: https://t.co/rknlAhFvbG

Adam called me one day with a crazy story about his personal experience with today’s surveillance society. I said, “This is a podcast.” And I was right.

Whalefall is described as “literally breathtaking” as footage is shown to #CinemaCon… and it’s actually insane.
The footage is set underwater, subs diving deep into darkness. A thump alerts the diver, calling attention to an approaching squad which ultimately zips away mysteriously… running from something below.
Below is just darkness… and an encroaching ticking. A whale rises, headfirst and slowly passes by the diver, not paying any mind to him. The diver sees the whale vanish into the darker, further waters and rises up himself… only for fish to start blowing past him and the squad to emerge, also fleeing. The whale zips passed him tumbling him into a large bed of seaweed…
It ultimately sees the diver tied up with the squad and pulled through the deep sea by the whale, only to end up in its mouth with the squid holding onto the diver to avoid being swallowed whole… ultimately pulling him in. It’s dark and claustrophobic and terrifying. The whale’s mouth is open the whole time as the diver fights for his life, ultimately seeing the squid get swallowed but now being stuck in the whale’s mouth… and its tongue turns to the man and pulls him, too… swallowing him whole.
That was insane. I have no idea how there’s a movie after that. Immediately intense. Wow.
Whalefall.
