I'm getting really sick of Windows 11 automatically restarting for updates. I tried everything under the sun to disable that but it's impossible.

I can't have long running tasks, they will be stopped because Windows REALLY wants to restart outside of active hours.

The only thing they REALLY do is calculate the likelihood for the next letter/word.. or pixel or bit or whatever if it's multi-modal.

It's still impressive, but it's not intelligence.
That's why AGI is still likely decades away.

But I guess marketing-wise AI is a great term.

Also, can we stop calling LLMs Artificial Intelligence?
Calling them an 'Intelligence' is like calling those two-wheel electric Segway things 'Hoverboards'.

The same way those things aren't Hoverboards because they don't hover, current LLMs aren't AI because they are not intelligent.
They are still programs that receive an input and calculate an output based on statistics.

Conceptually it's an easy fix, but depending on how they built the app, it might require quite a few changes.

The last okay version of ChatGPT was March 2023.
The speed and price have improved at the cost of response quality.

Also, the web application is so badly optimized that it nullifies any gains in speed from the model itself. After a few responses it grinds into a halt.
The reason is the whole UI being re-rendered for every single token added to the message.

Processing data using Chat-GPT unattended is asking to get crap data.
You cannot trust it's going to follow your prompts correctly.

You either make sure that only the message component is being updated, or if you can't (I don't see why you couldn't), just update the DOM directly as messages arrive and then update the react component as a whole when the message is done.

Hello @sama and @OpenAI, can you please fix the performance of the ChatGPT web app? It's unusable after a few messages because of the amount of re-renders.
Doesn't matter if you make the models faster if the UI will grind into a halt.

It's re-rendering the ENTIRE page for every single token that comes back from the api.

It shouldn't be too hard to fix this. It's probably a React context or something on the top level of the application.

Heck, I can fix it for you for the right compensation.

It used to be able to still understand the context of the conversation after a few messages, now I can't even figure out what's going on in the same message or remember the previous message!
It is definitely getting worse, there's no question.

So, some artists are assholes but their music is still good, so I ignore the fact they are assholes.
But Doja Cat doesn't even have that.
Even Doja Cat herself thinks her music is trash.
