I personally haven't put any money into savings the last 2 years, because I've been investing 100%
I think a strong savings depends on your income
Considering the economy, job market, inflation that number to me is between 4-12 months depending on salary, location, kids, etc
I spent much of these past few months in Philly and I can say that, in certain areas, at night, it's not all that bad. On the other hand, in MOST AREAS, at night, it's an absolute horror show.
It seems to me, there is a very deliberate stance by law enforcement to focus their attention on expensive areas while completely ignoring the places that have garbage on the sidewalks. That's the primary indicator by the way, the more visible shit on the walkways, the more danger you're in.
Also, and this really makes me crazy, traffic cameras, red light cameras all up and down North Broad Street, and you can bet your ass you'll get a speeding ticket if you do 26 MPH - UNLESS - you're a wild pack of punk ass boys popping wheelies on their motorcycles every damned night. No one seems to care about that shit.
I have a LOVE / HATE relationship with Philadelphia. Amazing culture, restaurants, entertainment, historic treasures - and then, of course feral creatures who do everything they can do to screw it up.
So, I hope the "next mayor" adopts a simple plan to clean up the mess. One tier of justice where everyone is held to the same standard. The old "broken windows" policy from the Giuliani years in NYC comes to mind.
