Reminder, don’t fall for the SEC preseason propaganda machine.
No, Florida Auburn Missouri Tennessee South Carolina should NOT be ranked in the preseason poll this year.
🤦♂️
"Some CFP metrics last season had BYU higher than the committee’s rankings, according to people who saw the data"
Don't want to overreact to this (and Sitake is a much more patient man than I) but it sure seems like the CFP committee uses the metrics when they confirm their prior biases (or their media partner's desires,) and use "the eye test" when they don't.
Also, the CFP committee has been at the SEC meetings both of the last 2 years to present data and receive feedback. Is this something they provide for all conferences? Maybe it is and I'm unaware, but I don't recall any other coaches/conferences mentioning that the CFP committee presented data at their meetings like the SEC (and I follow this stuff pretty closely). If not, why? Is it a de facto strategy meeting?
Check out this graphic about BYU’s AJ Dybantsa from CBS Sports:
First freshman in D1 history to average 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.
AJ’s going to be an NBA MVP one day…
The SEC wanted 11-2 BYU punished more for losing to a 12-1 team twice.
Meanwhile they want you to ignore their losses to 5-7 FSU and 4-8 Florida. They are pathetic and delusional.
Pat Forde wrote a great piece about CFP officials explaining strength of record metrics to SEC officials. The SEC was “not happy” with the outcome, feeling the SEC is just superior so wins means more and losses shouldn’t be punished.
Then Forde drops this wonderful nugget:
“You know that place where Group of 5 team USF went in and won? Well, we lost there because it’s actually really hard except it’s only hard just for us.”
Geez
The propaganda machine is in full swing already… BYU/TTU taking strays for having better resumes/seasons than SEC “bubblish” teams (mainly Vandy/Texas)
So we are supposed to trust the metrics when they favor SEC teams and trust “the human element” when they don’t? Got it?
Guess it wasn’t enough to leave BYU completely off the graphics… gotta rewrite history and downplay their CFP snub(s) altogether…
BYU had a SOS equal to Vandy and better than Ole Miss, and much better SOR than Vandy/Texas too.
They were upset because 11-2 BYU wasn’t punished EVEN MORE 😂😂😂
10-3 Alabama putting up -3 rushing yards and losing by 21 to Georgia (and also by 14 to 5-7 Florida State and also at home to Oklahoma. Plus, looking awful against 4-8 South Carolina and 5-7 Auburn): GOOD CFP TEAM. ✅
11-2 BYU who lost to the #4 team on the road and at a neutral site: They’re glad the Cougars missed the CFP, but they think BYU should’ve been ranked even FURTHER DOWN than #12, specifically behind 9-3 Texas who lost to 4-8 Florida and by 25 to #3 Georgia. ❌
Genuinely unbelievable.
Last season, BYU's opponents had their highest ever cumulative winning percentage -- by a very wide margin.
The winning percentage excludes the opponents' results of their games versus BYU.
In the past 20 years, just 19 Power 4/Power 5 QBs had 3,000 pass yards, 500 rush yards, 25 TDs and 10 or fewer turnovers in a season. Four won the Heisman. Three were runners-up and six became first-round draft picks. Another is Bear Bachmeier, who did it as a true freshman.
Seems currently relevant in setting of SEC considering a "break away"/silo...
They have the lowest % of "aligned" fans (meaning their favorite CFB team is the same school as their favorite MBB team... "non-aligned" people may like like Bama FB but Duke MBB, or Notre Dame FB & UConn MBB, or Oregon FB & Gonzaga MBB)
These are also the kind of fans that are more "casual" and more likely to jump off the bandwagon once a team comes down from their place of dominance...
@CFBKings Ok, so now do a team like BYU who went 11-1 in the regular season and was never in consideration for an at large spot despite a SOS higher than multiple playoff teams.
