It's hard to overstate how much of an outlier California is for its slow vote-counting relative to literally any other state or almost any other industrialized democracy.
People ask why the CA vote-counting process takes so long.
@Elex_Michaelson of @CNN explains it clearly here.
But the short answer is the state values participation plus thorough scrutiny of ballots over speed.
Why is the US military conducting training exercises tonight in Pasadena, and only informed the city TODAY!?
And @PasadenaGov was told not to inform its residents until 5:30pm?
Thanks to councilmember Rick Cole for saying something!
Tonight, the US military will be conducting a training exercise in northeast Pasadena until 1:00 a.m. During this time may hear limited helicopter activity, controlled explosions, and simulated weapons fire. Pasadena Police will be assisting with pedestrian and vehicle safety in the immediate area. This event is not open to the public or media. Should you have any concerns during the training, please contact (626) 744-4241.

I appreciate both sides staying at the table to reach this agreement. Congratulations to the teachers who had the courage to stand up for themselves and stayed strong. I know they are looking forward to being back in the classrooms with their students tomorrow.
Families, teachers, and students in the Little Lake City School District (@LittleLakeCSD) have been impacted by an ongoing labor dispute that has kept nearly 3,500 students out of the classroom for almost 11 days.
With schools still closed, the district must return to the bargaining table with @WeAreCTA, negotiate in good faith, and work toward a fair resolution that gets students back to school.
🧵Little Lake City Teachers have been on strike for 6 days. The Little Lake City School District (https://t.co/BqyuXOPlBt ) refuses to bargain a fair contract while our students are left to pay the price. Our community deserves better.
Teachers are shaping the next generation and devoting themselves tirelessly to our students. They deserve to be treated fairly at work.
Today, I called on the Little Lake School District to negotiate in good faith and reach a fair contract that respects our teachers.

California’s teachers are second to none, but the system they work in is failing them.
I’m enormously proud to have the endorsement of @WeAreCTA , and together I’m committed to making California a top 10 state for education.
Hundreds of teachers from Little Lake City School District, located in southeast Los Angeles County, are on strike for the first time in the district’s 150-year history. The union posted photos this morning from yesterday's picket line. More from @latimes: https://t.co/NQNhwFJgHY
I stand with the striking Little Lake School District teachers. It’s not right that they are seeing cuts to their healthcare benefits and not even being offered a pay raise. I support their call for smaller class sizes and more special education programs.
Woe to those who manipulate religion and the very name of God for their own military, economic, and political gain, dragging that which is sacred into darkness and filth. #ApostolicJourney#Cameroon https://t.co/bKteFZ3iWE
