I really try not to get too involved with US politics with my posts, because its a thankless task trying to have impartial discussions with people set in their views. But here you have to acknowledge the simple truth. Trump has been the leading GOP candidate since polls started asking the 2024 question. None of his rivals ever got close to 25% whereas Trump has been over 40%. Nikki Haley is the last candidate with even a remote shot of unseating him, despite Koch money and other silent benefactors.
Her only hope is that Trump is disqualified from participating at some point, but that seems a dubious proposition. Every attack on Trump just seems to energize his base.
Democrats seem to be saying, we want Trump, we will beat him based on our polls. But their polls and the consensus polls are not the same, and many I see showing tight numbers a 1% apart.
Then of course their is the Robert Kennedy enigma. Will he be a dark horse? Can he actually get on all 50 states?
The last part is the hard part, what does it likely mean for markets? I called the 2020 Biden rally. But damn if I know what twists and turns we see this year. Questions about Biden's health, physical and mental, are out there. Conspiracy theorists saying he drops out at some point and Michelle Obama selected. And I'm sure that will start its own conspiracy talk regarding who knows what.
In conclusion, US politics are a mess, at a time when they really can't be. Immigration, challenge to the US from BRICs, a FED backed into a corner regarding inflation and or economic implosion, Ukraine funding, debt spending debates, Debt levels, Israel..
All you can do is try and roll with the punches and manage your risk appropriately.
