🎬 Bring Her Back (2025)
A real fun hang!
No, no, no... no. I'm kidding.
One of those movies I’ll only watch once, for sure.
There’s a lot of good mixed in here. I think I even liked the movie. The body horror was solid! I looked away during a few scenes. There was another moment in the final act where I audibly gasped!
However, I have some thoughts and concerns.
Minor Spoilers Below
I have empathy for people who have experienced intense trauma. But in this movie, the filmmakers are asking us, the audience, to sit through a redemption arc for a child murderer? And one who has done unspeakable things beyond murder. Why? Just make the character evil and move on. The “villain is a victim, too” trope needs to stop. Because after watching this person do the worst things imaginable, no, I no longer care if the character finds peace.
Again, I think I liked the movie... it definitely gave me a lot to reflect on, which I appreciate, and the performances are strong. I wasn’t entertained by it—which isn’t the point of every movie—but I found no joy here. And horror is at its best when the genre can offer different things to different people. Horror comedies, fun slashers, and yes, the increasingly popular (and increasingly tired) trauma/grief-driven horror subgenre. A little bit of everything is the best way forward, and the most likely path to keep my favorite genre healthy, in my opinion.
I don’t know. I keep going back to this nagging feeling—something just feels off. I wish they would have leaned more heavily into the occult elements and less into the “villain is grieving, so maybe it’s okay in the end?” thing.
I wish the studio had asked at some point, “Do you want this to be an emotional trauma piece about grief, or do you want to make an occult body horror flick?” Because it’s hard to do both, right? What’s the old saying—you can’t have your cake and eat it too?
Final, final thoughts, I promise.
I have three small boys, and I found myself feeling sorry for the young male actor. I’ve never experienced that before, to be honest. I’m probably overreacting, but I genuinely feel bad for all the insane stuff this little kid had to do.
The Odd Family:Zombie on Sale(2019)

🤡 Clown in a Cornfield (2025)
I love a good scary cornfield. I grew up going to cornfield mazes. There is just something overtly scary about them.
I like creepy clowns. I mean, all horror fans do, right?
Also, I'm so Scream-pilled, I'm a sucker for most movies where I get to guess who the killer is. And I'm especially a sucker for movies with a big party where teens get slaughtered!
Is that enough?
It was for me! For what it is, I had a fun time.
