@MrMeehanHistory I stumble through it over the year as I teach (Sooners, Packers, etc.), but that’s a great setup for a course or book: “Mascots: American History through Big Googly Eyes”

@BlakeBusbin I believe the British “up to time” had the same meaning as the American “on time”. Might fit the idea that Europe would be too late to help the Union if they kept waiting.
