Overall it succeeds as a tastefully gloomy retelling of a story we all know by now; like a good cover of a famous song, it hits all the notes it has to without needing to add much else.
Well crafted and very familar, Robert Eggers' #Nosferatu essentially combines story elements from both the 1922 silent film of the same name and the book that inspired it, Dracula.
It delivers much what you'd expect from an Eggers-directed version of this material...
Dread-soaked atmosphere, gorgeous cinematography and art direction, actors dialing their performances up to 11 - it's a very serious, reverential approach. Bill Skarsgard's Count Orlok is a ghoulish and menacing character.
