My straight brother wants his son to call me first if he ever turns out gay, and I nearly lost it.
My brother and I were talking about his 8-year-old son the other night when he casually said something I wasn’t expecting.
He said, “If my son ever turns out to be gay, I want him to know he can call you if he needs someone to talk to.”
I laughed because I thought he was joking about me being the designated gay uncle. But he was dead serious.
He explained that, of course, he and his wife would want their son to feel comfortable talking to them. But he also knows there might be things a teenager would struggle to discuss with their parents.
Dating, coming out, rejection, and all those confusing feelings that come with figuring yourself out.
He basically said, “You’ve already been through it. You can help him understand things I might not know how to explain.”
And honestly, that hit me harder than I expected. When I was 14 or 15, I would have given anything to have one adult I could ask questions without being afraid of what they might think of me.
Someone I could ask, “Is this normal?” without having to worry that the question itself would expose something I wasn’t ready to share.
OMFG! This response from @AbdulElSayed to a completely bigoted question is probably the best thing I’ve heard all year.
Every bigot in America needs to listen to this three times.
Cage free eggs are simply a marketing lie! Cage free simply means the chickens are not in cages. There's no requirement for how much space chickens are given.
Dolly Parton never wavered in her belief that everyone deserved to live openly, love freely and be accepted exactly as they are. As the world mourns the loss of an irreplaceable icon, her words remain as powerful as ever.
Rest in peace, Dolly.
Rosie O’Donnell has lived rent-free in Trump’s head for nearly 20 years. She knows how to shatter his ego psychologically better than anyone on Earth.
Whatever you do, definitely do NOT retweet this video. He would absolutely lose his mind. 😂👇
I just had a Trump voter come up to me at Circle K and say:
“I’m sorry.”
I honestly had no idea what they meant, so I said:
“Excuse me?”
They looked at me and said:
“I used to hate you because you were always attacking Trump.”
Then they paused.
“Now I hate myself for defending him.”
That one caught me off guard.
I told them they shouldn’t hate themselves for changing their mind.
They said:
“I just wish I had seen it sooner.”
Politics has become so tribal that people feel like changing their mind means admitting defeat.
It doesn’t.
Sometimes changing your mind just means you finally stopped defending a politician and started thinking for yourself.
@karlykingsley Until we elect more mini Mamdanis and make it the American people against the wealthy and ultra wealthy like Besoz, the wealthy are gonna win.
Here's another hot take from yours truly:
If you get sick, please stay home if you can. If you have to be around others, please wear a mask! Nobody wants your illness
