This is a nightmare, not a vacation story. A traveler in Ethiopia gets shot in the foot by armed militants, and while driving back to Addis Ababa for treatment, he takes a wrong turn onto an unmarked road with zero warning signs.

Instead of pulling him over safely, federal police open fire on his vehicle. Already carrying a bullet in his foot, he abandons the disabled car and runs through the desert just to survive.

When they catch him, he says they force him to keep running on that same injured foot while laughing at him, and his property gets stolen out of the car while it’s sitting in police custody.

Then he’s held at a hotel under guard for six days, which he believes was pressure for a bribe. No tourist should have to fear getting shot over a missing road sign.
