Two economies in California. One of them is unregulated and has very low operating expenses. The other plays by the rules and has high operating expenses.

Years ago, I invested a small amount of money in a restaurant / bar on Sunset Blvd in Echo Park.

A woman who lived like a mile away objected to our conditional use permit, delaying the liquor license for a YEAR, causing the place to fold.

But this guy can set up a folding table and sell whatever he wants and no one says "boo".

*Totally* unfair to entrepreneurs who play by the rules.

Los Angeles is the land of anarcho-tyranny.

Want to open a normal bar, restaurant, or store? You’ll need to build out and lease a whole commercial space and wait years for a liquor license, paying taxes and complying with thousands of health and labor regulations. Full time security to keep our “unhoused neighbors” — most of whom aren’t even from here — from trashing the place because LAPD won’t do anything.

Want to sling food and liquor on the street for cash? You’re a protected class, set up anywhere you please, no taxes no problem, and dump your waste on the sidewalk.

Want to build housing? Years of permitting and getting shaken down by every city department for parks fees, affordable housing fees, you name it. You finally get your home built but you wait months just for LADWP to actually turn on the lights and let you get your certificate of occupancy, just because. But if a squatter comes and occupies your home and presents a fake lease, the police won’t do anything about it, because that’s a “civil” matter. The homeless can party in and burn down your property and there’s nothing you can do about it. You try to sell and get out of this mess, you pay a 5%+ transfer tax to fund eviction defense for deadbeats and “professional” tenants.

Either way, you lose.

@jamesjcaruso @AmericanAir Nope! We were in this same situation last night. We were told that there was an issue in Portland, ME for air traffic control management. I confirmed last night around 11pm, the time we were scheduled to land, that there was no such situation there.

Yet another @AmericanAir debacle last night. 3 out of every 4 flights have issues. I truly detest that company. I have drastically curtailed my business travel because of it. I cancelled this flight after successive delays totaling 2.5 hours and took a @JetBlue flight instead.

I hate to tell y’all this, but Lindsay Clancy didn’t brutally 💀 one of her kids, and become so horrified she spared her other two from that fate. She did it once, said “okay, that process was acceptable”, and did it again and again.

@AmericanAir Here we are, still sitting at the gate seven minutes after the flight was supposed to depart because we need fuel. My thoughts: if the plane was truly working properly as you all said and there really was an issue at Portland, the plane should have been fueled last night or this morning. But it wasn’t. It was broken and couldn’t be fueled because you all were doing maintenance. The lies are astounding and absurd and insulting.

When Paramount leaves, all they need is one good quarter, and the floodgates will open. Every studio will leave. Nothing anchors the film industry to CA anymore, and if the bean-counters can make movies cheaper in TN, plus pay no income tax? Game over.

You used to need to be in LA if you wanted to be in the business. All the studios were physically there, and all the celebrities lived there: LA had the status. But now, everyone is leaving. LA isn’t cool anymore. Spielberg doesn’t live there anymore, Mel Gibson’s house burned down, Nic Cage’s driveway collapsed…why stay here and do battle with naked drug zombies and hours of traffic every day?

Studios are pragmatic. They prioritize the bottom line. They relocate to film in Hungary because they can shave a few bucks off their budgets…once Paramount pumps out a few movies that are in the black a month faster because they have less overhead in Tennessee…it’s going to be an instantaneous departure for everyone.

You are watching Bob Bonta slaughter California’s golden goose right before your eyes. Insane to see.

@AmericanAir is the worst. As we were nearing our gate to board the plane, we heard over a walkie-talkie that our plane was going to need maintenance so the flight was going to be delayed. Go to the service desk and we were told it was weather, we are stuck until morning so they don’t have to pay for a hotel. Dishonest and disgusting.

Nope. Zero. None. She was a privileged woman who had a hard time postpartum and she murdered her children. There are so many women with so fewer resources than she had who manage to not only survive the postpartum years but also NOT KILL THEIR CHILDREN. She is the typical upper middle class, spoiled woman who cries victim. The women sympathizing with her are the same.

💔 THIS is what breaks my heart.

Those tiny red pajamas belonged to 8-month-old Callan Clancy — the youngest of Lindsay Clancy’s three children.

Prosecutors held them up in court as evidence.

Just look at how small they are.

They’re not just an exhibit. They belonged to a BABY. A little boy who should have outgrown them, taken his first steps, said his first words, and had an entire childhood ahead of him.

Instead, his pajamas are evidence in a murder trial.

With so much attention focused on Lindsay, I refuse to let the children become footnotes in their own story.

Callan was only 8 months old.

Remember his name. Remember his little life.

HE was the victim. 💔
