The University of Oslo had decided to abolish all teaching (also elective courses) in bankruptcy and mortgages. This is a shame, because intimate knowledge of these subjects is necessary to be a complete business lawyer. The decision does not have any support from the outside.

Just returned from a seminar on new technologies in shipping at the Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law in Swansea, where I presented a paper on Electronic Signatures in Shipping Practice. Exciting!

CEVIA organized a good Conference 'The Responsible Consumer in the Digital Age - International and Nordic Perspectives on Consumer Financial Protection' last week. I participated with a paper on digital signatures used in electronic conveyancing. This system is not yet safe!

Participated in a conversation at Radio P2 "Ekko" this morning on extraction of mineral resources at the continual shelf and seabed. For once great possibilities with apparently manageable adverse consequences.

Spoke on International Private Law for insurance contracts at the seminar "Towards a Norwegian codification of choice of law rules" in Oslo 3-4 May. Seems like IPL rules and the rules on the EU internal market are quite intertwined.

A successful side event at Arctic Frontiers : Liability and Compensation for Transboundary Petroleum Damage from Offshore Installations. It was organized jointly by the @HUMAN_SEA program and the Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law. I presented on 'A climate for uniform laws?'

Just home after Arctic Frontiers with a very good feeling for the conference. I presented on Liberties and obligations in the law of Arctic search and rescue in the science part of the conference.

Attended an interesting seminar on snow crab jurisdiction off Norway and Svalbard yesterday at the Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law, Oslo. My presentation was on international dispute resolution. I argued that the International Court of Justice would be a likely venue.

Participated in the (really) SMART workshop "Enforcing Environmental Sustainability in the Face of Business Failure and Distress" today with the presentation "Environmental Obligations in Insolvency Procedures".

Participated in legal workshop "Legal and Governance Frameworks to Address Climate Change in Shipping" at IMO, London Friday, co-organized by the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI). My presentation was on "The Role of International Maritime Legislation"

We just got funding from a project with DNV-GL and others called VERDE with the aim "to establish a framework for assessing the feasibility and verifying the performance of technologies that reduce fuel consumption and emissions, at ship level". 😀

Presented at The Arctic Council working group for Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response (EPPR) in Malmö yesterday, together with Alla Pozdnakova and Kjersti Tusvik. Involved in a new, exciting project on Review of Legal Challenges Related to the MOSPA Agreement.

Presented on the (quasi-)negotiable properties of bills of lading at a seminar on "Bills of Lading in less chartered waters" in Rotterdam 16-17 November. I enjoyed the conference - and Rotterdam.

Gave a presentation on the Antarctic in the Norwegian MFA 13 November. National jurisdiction is not so bad after all, I argued.

Philip Linné very sucessfully defended his PhD dissertation on SOx emissions i Gothenburg 10 November. I was there, as I have followed Phillip's work for several years. Warm congratulations to Philip!

Presented at the UiO Day of the Arctic 9 November. My topic was on the guardians of the arctic (mostly the coastal states) and their guardians (to a large extent none). A well attended program put well together by CEES.

Presented my project on ITLOS and the EU Court at PluriCourts 1. Nov. Very helpful feedback from colleagues. @PluriCourts is a wonderful place to be.
