@jayacunzo Also if you don’t have kids for various reasons, changing the way it’s talked about in culture would be nice. All I hear is “I never really know joy or fulfillment before” or “this kid is my whole world & I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Message that sends is hard for us too.
@Clancy4Utah Yeah I bet you “get” to be a zennial. I get to be officially Gen X but very close to millennial. Not sure what cool name we have. Xennial?? 😆
…there’s a lot of worry & heartache w/these funding decisions. They planned & budgeted for decreasing fed funds. But news of even deeper cuts came from the state yesterday. Shelters are the most resource-intensive services. They need to be there for highest risk victims. #utleg
Utah DV service providers are some of the most dedicated, resilient professionals I’ve had the privilege to know and work with. They’re committed to lethality assessment expansion & will do what it takes to help every victim. They know and have seen it it save lives. But/and… 🧵
SB117 takes effect on July 1, directing all Utah police to conduct lethality assessments when responding to intimate partner violence. That same day, service providers in Utah will start working with a much smaller budget.

Thank you @kyle_dunphey and @Deseret for using these recordings to give in-depth look at abusive behavior with DV experts. People ask what we should do about abuse in Utah? Understand dynamics, listen & believe victims when they come to you, find an advocate to help safety plan.
"We start by believing victims, and we safety plan for everything. If somebody says something is happening, you safety plan for it.”

I’ve been to my fair share of DC “days on the hill.” Never have I gotten to meet w/more than one actual member. Most times it’s none. Love staffers - they know their stuff & do a lot of the policy work - but nice that 3 of 6 UT Congressmen talked w/us directly this time. #utpol
All people deserve to feel safe from sexual and domestic violence in their homes and communities. Thank you to the representatives from @UCASAorg and @UtahDv for meeting with me to discuss ways to better support victims of rape, sexual assault, and domestic violence.
