@AllOfItWNYC longtime gowanus/southslope resident here. hearing wburg was rezoned in 99 & considering what it’s like now makes me ever more worried for my neighborhood. Any lessons on how to keep a neighborhood interesting and accessible?
I hate the protected bike lane on fourth ave. If used as designed, it would be lovely. But people park in the areas before an intersection that are blocked out and not actual parking spots, so it blocks visibility.
Moments before I witnessed today’s accident, I was almost run over by a fed ex truck going south took a right turn around a car that was parked in an illegal space as well as a second car double parked around him.
I’m also a driver, and turning right anywhere on fourth is super stressful because you can never see what’s coming in the bike lane, and riders have the right away.
Which is another reason that bike lane is terrible: all those bullshit new 15 min grocery stores along the avenue are filling the bike lines with electric bikes, scooters, and apparently now unicycles. I know those guys are just doing their jobs but it’s unsafe for everyone
No was was hurt but it could have been worse. Tho the unicycle rider was going way too fast for the bike lane, especially bc I imagine you can’t really stop on a dime in those things.
I just witnessed an accident between a car and a delivery guy on an electric unicycle on 4th and 27th. Driver was turning into the KFC and a car was illegally parked just before the parking lot entrance so he couldn’t see the bike line. Unicycle dude smacked right into him.
Someone mentioned to me that they’d heard something about them being connected to cruise ships, but I haven’t found anything of the sort. Anyone know more?
Two major fireworks displays in two weeks. No warning from the city ahead at. And it’s not even Memorial Day. Looks like it’s the red hook cruise terminal or maybe jersey city?
@BrianLehrer really? @SenGillibrand thinks it's a good sign that she has to explain to a grown man—let alone a US Senator—what paid leave is? oh brother. Gross that we have to appeal to a man's ego to provide basic human rights.
