The two cast columns are now in place. They are not only load bearing but will stand proudly within the main museum when complete. Soon these columns, as well as the other elements, will be taking the weight of the roof with its new slates.

A wee glimpse of some of the internal work’s being carried out at the old school project, Ionad Eilean na h-Òige.

New openings have been made in the old walls, and these are nearing completion. The side panels and soffits are cast using the old timber – v-lining and timber boards from the rooms. This will visually give us a wee reminder of the rooms we were all taught in preserved in time.

Strip out works have started on the main museum area in the Ionad Eilean na h-Òige project (the refurbishment of the old Eriskay school).
It looks a sorry state at the moment but the end result will be great.
