Good to be back in Kyiv with fellow NB8 leaders.
Thirty-five years ago, Estonia restored its independence and Ukraine declared its own. Today, we celebrate Ukraine’s National Flag Day and meet for the NB8-Ukraine Summit.
Putin hopes that time is on his side. Our job is to prove him wrong. Ukraine must have everything it needs to defend itself and decide its own future. 🇪🇪🇺🇦
Great success at today’s #EUCO.
The European Council recognises that Russian ex-combatants pose a potential threat to EU internal security and calls on the Commission to propose solutions.
I met with the national security advisors of the Coalition of the Willing member states.
Today, three panels were held involving Ukraine’s negotiating team and 18 participants from various countries and institutions. The primary focus was on security guarantees, rebuilding, and a basic framework for a real peace. During our meeting, we discussed all existing draft documents and examined in detail the sequencing of steps: on January 5, a meeting of chiefs of the general staff will take place, followed by a leaders-level meeting in Paris on January 6. After these contacts, we expect a productive joint meeting with representatives of the United States.
Now we have a new wave, a new chance to finish this war. And we are thankful that on the diplomatic path, we are also not alone. I thank our partner states and their leaders for their consistent support for our country.

Less than 20 kilometers from Tallinn downtown and the Government buildings of a @NATO Ally and 🇪🇺 Member State.
Unacceptable and reckless violation of our territorial integrity.
Timely visit to Tallinn by @NATO SACEUR General Alexus G. Grynkewich.
Last night’s attacks on Poland show Russia’s threat extends beyond Ukraine to all NATO.
We will strengthen our air defence and Ukraine together. Estonia will invest 5% of GDP in defence starting next year.
Estonia will increase its defence spending to at least 5% of our GDP from next year.
Our aim is clear - to make any aggression against us unfeasible.
Russia has not changed its goals and imperialistic ambitions. This is a real threat to both Europe and NATO.
The only obstacle to peace is Putin’s decision to continue his war of aggression.
If Russia stops fighting, there will be no war.
If Ukraine stops fighting, there will be no Ukraine.
Estonia’s 🇪support to Ukraine 🇺🇦 remains unwavering. Time for Europe to step up.
Et selge oleks - suurendasime veerandi võrra sõjalist abi Ukrainale. @KristenMichalPM: “Tegime valitsusega neljapäeval otsuse soetada ja saata Ukrainasse esimesel võimalusel 10 000 suurtükimürsku” https://t.co/bDEGK6OHAc
Maailmas möllab, VLA aastaraamat aitab, vt https://t.co/K7bbOyYzOD: "Few nations know Russia better than Estonia. /.../ Luckily for us, they’re also committed to transparency, and the public annual report by EFIS is a must-read."
See kohtumine meenutas mulle Jaapani kirjaniku Haruki Murakami romaani, kus täiesti tavalise, igapäevase maailma kõrval eksisteerib paralleelmaailm, mille reeglid on hoopis teistsugused. https://t.co/PPGHDR3jIT

Kriisiks valmistumine on igaühe enda ülesanne. @priithobemagi: Aegajalt juhtuvad elus ahhaa!-momendid. Minu jaoks oli see üks lauaõppus riigikantseleis, kus arutati suurettevõtete tegutsemist sõjalise kriisi ajal. Olime kriisiplaane arutanud, ja enda meelest hästi valmistunud 1/2

Today, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania joined the Continental European frequency band.
This is an important step to strengthen our energy security, further mitigating dependency on Russia.
Synchronisation was well planned and executed. Thankful to everyone who worked for this.
“The quickest and the easiest way for it (war against 🇺🇦) to end is for the aggressor to pull back. Russia must pull back,” said @Keir_Starmer in the panel to begin #JEFTallinn.
„We have to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position, whether or not there are negotiations.“
Kuna JEFi liikmed mõtlevad sarnaselt ja mõistavad hästi ohtu, mida Venemaa kujutab Kirde-Euroopale, ja seda, kui oluline on sõjaline osa ükskõik millises vastuses sellele ohule, võib JEF reageerida kiiremini kui NATO tervikuna, leiab Tony Lawrence. #JEF10

Laia riigikaitse investeeringute programmist erladatakse piiriehituseks 2025-2027 täiendavalt 19 miljonit eurot (https://t.co/Ik6zBRmT8n). Nüüd lisandub EL vahenditest 19 miljonit veel.
Meeldetuletuseks: alustati 130-miljonilise eelarvega (https://t.co/PV9KuPicZw)
Good news from @EU_Commission to support strengthening the EU's external borders with Russia and Belarus.
Estonia receives additional funding of €19.4 million to enhance surveillance.
Countering Russia’s hybrid threats and keeping our common borders safe is our joint priority.
