MoA delegation participating at COP-16 of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification in Riyadh presented,, yesterday, a paper and a documentary video on the following themes:
*Range of measures undertaken by the country to mitigate and combat desertifcation and land degradation;
*MoA's Five-year (2024/2028) Strategic Plan anchored on the mantra: "Safe and Nutritious Food for Everyone: Everywhere";
*MoA's Small and Productive Farm Plot (SPFP) Strategy that includes semi-arid regions of the country to mitigate effects of drought and improve productivity per unit land.

Salient points highlighted by #Eritrea's delegation at the Meeting of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention - UNCCD, Riyadh (2-13 December 2014)

GOE's Important strategies and Action Plans include:
*Development of National Drought Mitigation Plans;
*Expansion of water conservation and groundwater management programmes;
*Enhancement of soild and water conservation and afforestation programmes as well as adopton of Climate-smart agricultural practices;
*Setting up of modern national meteorological services;
*Reinforcing capacity development programmes;
*Consolidation of stakeholder partnerships both with relevant development partners as well as local communities against drought and interrelated challenges;
*Mapping out Integrated Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Climate Change Adaptation Projects across the six Agro-ecological Zones in the country.

#Eritrea's Delegation, led by Mr. Semere Amlesom, DG of the Agricultural Extension Department at MoA, is participating in the Sixteenth Conference of Parties (COP 16) of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) being held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 2-16 December this month.

Convened under the theme: "Our Land; Our Future", the Conference is slated to become a landmark event for accelerating implementation of tangible measures on land restoration, drought resilience, and green transition.

Eritrea acceded to, and ratified, the Convention in 1996; two years after its establishment in 1994.
