Dawkins described himself as a "cultural Christian." He openly enjoys church architecture, carols, and hymns.

Imagine you are Swiss.

Life is good. The climate is great for most of the year.

You are wealthier than the average person in Europe.

You have direct democracy.

And then you find out that 80.5% of asylum seekers from North Africa (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia) have been accused of one or more crimes.

For comparison: 12.3% of those from all other countries have been accused of a crime.

Only 0.6% of Swiss nationals have been accused of a crime.

You would think that these North Africans would be deported.

Ah no…not quite.

Because 90% of them arrive without papers it is illegal to deport them anywhere.

Some hang around in Switzerland but many go on to countries (like the UK) where they can get accommodation, money, phones.

Western civilisation is dying because of our addiction to silly laws that benefit criminals over the innocent population.

In the centuries leading up to Europe's heyday, it hanged 1% of each generation

Practically every crime beyond the most petty minor offenses were capital crimes, and that was rigorously enforced. Horse thieves, robbers, murderers, and the like faced not "probation" given to them by a pro-crime judge, but the gallows and gibbet. And they faced it for centuries, from roughly the High Middle Ages to the Georgian period (the Victorians were soft on crime compared to their ancestors)

Resultantly, serious crime mostly faded away. There are always pickpockets and serial killers, to some extent at least, but things like armed robbery can be mostly solved with consistent enough application of the gallows, as it plucks the crime genes out of the population

Because it was freed from the burden of rampant crime, Western civilization could focus on doing great and noble things instead of endlessly subsidizing a criminal underclass

We, on the other hand, have devoted every resource imaginable to subsidizing that criminal underclass that commits all the crime

I left Canada when most of the population voted in liberals multiple times. When I got yelled at for getting in an elevator without a mask. When I wasn’t allowed to go buy groceries without a vaccine card. When my neighbors called the police on us for inviting family over. After I got harassed by a homeless man on the subway with my 2 year old and nobody stepped in. After areas in downtown Toronto (where I lived) were taken over by tents and addicts. After I was told there was a 2 year waiting list for an ankle replacement when I couldn’t walk. After I had to find a surgeon out of country. After I’d spent days waiting in emergency for subpar “health care”.

It’s not just the government. It’s the people in Canada too. And no, not all of them, but in Toronto? In Quebec? A lot of them. And it’s getting worse not better.

I miss Canada. I miss old Canada. I miss old Toronto pre-2016. But it wasn’t just the government that wrecked it. It was the entitled, naive people living there that brought it on.

I feel terrible for Canadians (especially Albertans) that can’t pick up and leave but I’m sure as hell not going back until it doesn’t feel like a 3rd world country full of people who hate people like me.

Aladdin could have run/flown away after Jafar sent him to “the ends of the Earth.” He didn’t have to save Jasmine to live.

Aladdin had no conception of that. It wasn’t planned, it was Jasmine’s action in the moment. Doesn’t change the fact that Aladdin approached known danger with only the intention to help.

Willingly facing someone you know is the most powerful sorcerer on earth, and whom you have already seen perform powerful magic, is very heroic. As is running over to free Jasmine from the suffocating sand of a giant hourglass rather than stabbing the giant snake-sorcerer again when you have a good opportunity. As is fighting said giant snake-sorcerer rather than fleeing, and tricking him while being held in his coil. All very heroic.

Aladdin was clearly altruistic. He gave his bread to needy children on the street, and helped a “peasant girl” to escape the angry merchant for no reason; then to escape guards alongside him instead of fleeing faster, alone. And again, confronted Jafar multiple times instead of fleeing. It was objectively not all the genie’s trick.

To be clear, you and I are ideologically similar. But your analysis certainly contains mistakes.

Tangled and Aladdin, both good movies, are not separated by Christian vs non-Christian origins. The final products are the way they are, Disney adaptations defined by what they were made into.

Before I left Islam, I was debating a Sudanese Christian who challenged me to name one good thing about Muhammad. Just one.

I thought: easy. We Muslims practically worship Muhammad as the greatest man who ever lived.

So I tried to recall good qualities, honesty, compassion, mercy, love, anything, any single story, and I couldn’t remember one.

So I went to Google and typed: “the qualities of the Prophet.”

Islamic websites came up, and I thought, good, now I’ll have plenty of examples for this guy.

I opened them and was stunned: even the Islamic websites offered no good qualities in the sense he’d challenged me to find.

They praised his courage in spreading Islam, his fighting of Allah’s enemies, his physical strength, and his strictness.

Not one of the qualities the man had asked for.

Even the famous mercy at Mecca, sparing the people who had supposedly persecuted him, turned out to be for strategic reasons.

And when I started digging into the Quran and the sira for myself, I found that he married a child, he took Safiyya, a Jewish woman, the same day he killed her father, her brother, and her husband, trading his companion Dihya seven other captives for her, and posting a guard by the tent in case she tried to avenge them while raping her.

He had the men of the Jewish tribe beheaded, down to boys checked for pubic hair.

He raided trade caravans and took other tribes’ treasures.

He lied and broke truces he asked for.

He slept with all of his 9 wives the same night.

He killed anyone who mocked him.

He recruited raiders with the promise of other cities’ women.

And when his own fighters hesitated to touch married captives, because their husbands were alive and watching, Muhammad told them it was fine because allah said so.

Even the pagans of Arabia had higher morality than he did.

Every one of these acts was stamped with Allah’s approval.

He even married his adopted son’s wife by divine decree.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I left Islam when I met this disgusting man, a man who turned his qualities into a religion, transmitted it to every generation of Muslims since, and made himself the ceiling of their morality.

This is the man Mamdani wants you to learn from.

This was me.

I left the Church when I had too many questions and too few answers.

20ish years an atheist.

I was the founder and president of our atheist club on campus.

I got to meet Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Dan Barker, etc.

I dressed up as a pirate and mocked street preachers and the Gospel by preaching the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

I was even an occasional drag queen.

I know that road. There’s no meaning to be found there. And once the carefree spirit of youth wore away, all that was left was vanity.

But Christ finds us even when we’ve wandered far. And He will always take you back.

Christ is King.
