From a Hindi-medium upbringing in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, to studying at Caltech and working as Richard Feynman’s teaching assistant, Professor Deepak Dhar’s journey is remarkable.
Now, the 74-year-old physicist has won the 2026 Dirac Medal for his contributions to statistical mechanics, an honour associated with the biggest names in theoretical physics, including Stephen Hawking.
Born in 1951, Dhar’s curiosity was nurtured by his father, who brought home science magazines. He studied at Allahabad University, earned his MSc from IIT Kanpur and later completed his PhD at Caltech.
After graduating, he chose to return to India instead of staying in the US. At TIFR, he spent decades advancing theoretical physics and mentoring generations of researchers.
His work has earned him honours. In 2022, he became the first Indian to receive the Boltzmann Medal, followed by the Padma Bhushan in 2023.
What started with science magazines brought home by his father led to global recognition for the questions he chose to pursue.

This is a view of India 🇮🇳 you could hardly have imagined ten years ago !
I have been traveling extensively in India and its is amazing to see how infrastructure is improving by the day:
* Trains are much more reliable and comfortable. Next year first high speed line will open.
* Airports are modern and new airports are coming up by the day - in Mumbai, greater Delhi and more.
* 25 Indian cities are constructing metros.
* Roads are drastically improving - both highways and may be most importantly the last mile connection to the hundreds of thousands of villages.
There is an old saying that if you want to get rich you should start by building a road. The infrastructure revolution in India is a marvelous step towards Viksit Bharat - the modern India.
Well done India!
Thanks @IAjitDoval_IND

A traditional technique practiced by young shepherds of Ethiopia’s Banna tribe.
They walk on stilts to watch over their livestock in tall grass, navigate wetland areas, and stay safe from snakes and predators such as lions and leopards.
It demands strength, balance, and training starting from childhood.

🚨David Sinclair: “AI helped us do 160 years of biology work in two months.”
ROGAN: “What?!”
SINCLAIR: “We’re looking for molecules, a single molecule that can replace this cocktail... You need a molecule to do three or four activities in the cell. Finding one activity is what pharmaceutical companies do. It takes hundreds of millions, if not billions, to make a drug.”
“My little lab of 20 people and students are trying to make one drug do three or four different things. That’s beyond the reach of pharmaceutical experience, at least five years ago.”
“This funnel is full of a trillion molecules, and we have to come down to one. We don’t look for a trillion molecules at the bench. That would take 160 or thousands of years... so we do it inside the computer.”
“We just use a lot of compute, and we dock each of these molecules against the enzymes that we now know how they work, thanks to Google DeepMind solving the problem of how all our proteins look, 20,000 of them.”
1 trillion candidate molecules.
Filtered to 200.
Two months.
“Next week, we’re testing these 200 against human cells, and we’ve also got AI helping us tell if the human cells go from 92 years old back to 20. We can tell that just by looking at them, thanks to AI.”
Dr. David Sinclair is a Harvard geneticist and one of the world's leading longevity researchers.
Fascinating to hear how he's using AI to compress 160 years of biology work into two months.
What other decades of work is about to become two months?

The Vatican connection: George Mutholil and the plot to destabilize India
The cat is out of the bag! It has been established beyond doubt that a Jesuit priest by the name George Mutholil from Kerala is the master brain behind the riots and anarchy being staged in New Delhi in the name of agitation demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Human Resource Development. More than the fight against NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) for admission to the undergraduate courses in India’s medical and dental colleges, what prompted Mutholil, a hardcore Christian fundamentalist, is the opposition towards the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (Amendment) Bill 2026, which puts restrictions on all kinds of donations received by religious institutions, NGOs and evangelists.
This was brought to light by Prof K S Radhakrishnan, former vice-chancellor of Sree Sankara Sanskrit University at Kalady, who has been following the modus operandi of the vicars, bishops, archbishops and cardinals for quite some time. “George Mutholil is known for his hatred towards Sanatana Dharma, Narendra Modi, RSS and India the nation.
But that is his personal issue. What he is doing right now is the most despicable act. He is out to finish and destroy India once and for ever,” Prof Radhakrishnan said in a podcast with Kerala’s leading social media channel, India Live.
Prof Radhakrishnan said the community of priests and nuns belonging to the Church are at the forefront in the agitation against the FCRA Amendment Bill.
For those who have not heard about Mutholil till now, the Jesuit priest is an undercover agent of the Vatican and is working round the clock as an evangelist and a Maoist, said Prof Radhakrishnan, a Congress leader-turned BJP leader.
It is not possible to find Mutholil on social media, and he maintains a low profile. “Mutholil, who has worked as the director/principal of Thiruvananthapuram Loyola College, does not make any appearance in public functions. He understood that the anti-NEET agitation staged by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) is the right opportunity to fish in troubled waters,” said the professor.
🔥 Japanese Hindu devotees performed a special yagya for world peace at the Thiruvanaikoil Arulmigu Jambukeswarar Temple in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu.
🔥 The yagya was performed to honour the shared heritage and cultural ties between Japan and India, with devotees specifically honouring deities like Benzaiten (Saraswati) and Ganesh (Kangiten).
🔥 The Japanese priest (santhi) Sayoko Kimura said: “We came from Japan, with 120 people gathering together. We prayed for world peace. We believe that Tamil and Japan share a profound connection rooted in our history and language."
🔥 "We are very fascinated by the architecture of these temples and are really impressed. Our aim is to build a new ashram in Pondicherry among the Japanese community."
🔥 "During our stay, we visited over 100 ashrams, where we performed pooja, abhishekam and yagam twice a day."
