Monroe City Council approved a motion to instruct its CRTPO delegate to put forth a motion to reconsider the I-77 S Toll lane vote at tonight’s meeting.

If that motion moves forward, the Monroe delegate is expected to vote in support of the project.

Monroe City Council is holding a meeting discussing whether to overturn its CRTPO representative’s vote to rescind support of the I-77S Toll project.

This as a GA proposal to charge municipalities that voted in favor of rescinding support for the project, is on the table.

For a second day in a row, some Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools students couldn’t complete their end-of-grade testing due to technology issues.

Third to 8th grade students were taking the online assessments and some experienced platform or server disruptions.

REMEMBERING KYLE BUSCH: I spoke with a family who received a grant for their IVF treatments through the Samantha and Kyle Busch @bundleofjoyfund Bundle of Joy Fund, an organization the family started. Because of this, have two boys who are huge NASCAR fans! Their story at 5:30pm.

We are saddened and heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion and one of our sport's greatest and fiercest drivers. He was 41 years old.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Busch family, Richard Childress Racing and the entire motorsports community.

#BREAKING: Mayor Vi Lyles announces she will resign from office effective June 30 and will not seek re-election in Nov. 2027.

We just received email with the announcement from LEPR agency, the public relations firm, that has represented the mayor during her tenure.

Teachers will participate in a rally in Raleigh this morning advocating for state lawmakers to pass a budget and increase school funding.

The CMS Board of Education has voted 8-1 to reject the superintendent’s $2.1 billion budget recommendation. They asked Dr. Crystal Hill for an amended budget due May 12. When Dr. Hill asked for clarification, she was told she would receive it at a later time.

The Catawba County Commissioners just approved merging three school districts 3-2, upsetting many in the crowd.

The public hearing ended and the commissioners just started voting. A motion to do an independent study fails 3-2.

I’m in Newton where commissioners will decide whether to merge Newton-Conover Schools, Hickory City Schools and Catawba County Schools into a countywide system.

This a small representation of the people here. There is an overflow room downstairs.

We have been listening to public comment for more than two hours, with no one expressing full support for the merger. I’m in the main room but went downstairs where there are two overflow rooms.
