JAXX’s official statement is out, and I think it’s important to read the entire thing before jumping to conclusions.

Regardless of where you stand on the story, there are a few key points worth acknowledging.

JAXX ACCEPTS THE CRITICISM and explains that the story WAS GOING TO DEVELOP IN A VERY DIFFERENT DIRECTION FROM WHAT MANY PEOPLE IMAGINED. However, she also acknowledges that the story’s premise had fundamental limitations and, because of that, she decided NOT TO CONTINUE THE PROJECT.

She also recognizes that she failed to approach such a sensitive historical period with enough care and ended up reproducing problematic representations WITHOUT REALIZING IT AT THE TIME. Instead of trying to justify the work or pushing forward despite the backlash, SHE APOLOGIZES, takes responsibility, and says she will learn from this experience.

I saw many people claiming this was all about money or that she was simply trying to profit from the controversy. But if money had truly been the only goal, the easiest thing to do would have been to keep publishing the series.

Instead, SHE CHOSE TO CANCEL THE PROJECT after reflecting on the criticism and recognizing that the premise itself was not appropriate.

Everyone has the right to feel uncomfortable with the story or disagree with it. But I also think it’s fair to acknowledge when an author LISTENS TO THE CRITICISM, TAKES RESPONSIBILITY, AND MAKES A DIFFICULT DECISION instead of ignoring everything that happened.
