Quick reflections after 100 live streams of @OfflineOnAir:
Live streaming is still a niche format, but it pushes guests to think on their feet and speak their mind. Spontaneity and candour produce honest insights.
We observed that headlines and television interviews covered major milestones, and most podcasts focused on retrospective reflections. What was missing was a product/format that captured the regular milestones, setbacks, and decisions that make up 98% of any startup’s journey. Our hunch was that drawing insights from the long, often lonely stretches between major milestones would be far more useful to active builders.
We didn’t plan this, but TON is becoming a neutral archive of first-person narratives from the ecosystem. As the current generation of companies matures, it may prove to be a valuable record of how they were built.
We don’t ask gotcha questions at TON. Accountability matters, but boards, investors, shareholders, and the media are better suited to provide it. We see our role as surfacing what a company does well so builders can learn from one another and skip avoidable mistakes.
I see TON's mission as complementary to our mission at @AngelListIndia, which, at a high-level, is to increase the odds of startup success. Founders are the true stars of TON, as they should be.
TBPN is a worthy inspiration. But TBPN is never going to cover the Indian ecosystem. So we took from TBPN what TBPN took from ESPN, and built an independent identity for TON.
Our post-stream clips do a great job of amplifying the most useful insights from each conversation. But tuning in live has its own advantage: you can ask a question mid-stream and go from being a passive listener to an active participant.
Excited for stream #101 next week. Have fun building!
In 2025, @AngelListIndia crossed 800 portfolio companies. Every one of them started with a founder betting on an idea, and everything we do starts with one question: how can we help them?
Across sectors, these companies are changing how we eat, shop, travel, and transact, making everyday life faster, smarter, healthier. Grateful to have a front-row seat, and play a small part in their journey.
More portfolio insights in our venture report 👀
@AngelListIndia data from 2000+ rounds shows that Seed stage round sizes remained relatively stable over the years. Pre-Seed rounds are back to 2021 levels, while average Series A round sizes depicted significantly higher cyclicality.
Full report to follow!
Average DPI for early-stage Indian funds is 0.46x. Fewer than 1 in 4 have returned even half their paid-in capital, and those that did took ~6.5 years to get there (@Crisil Intelligence x @OisterGlobal AIF Report).
No surprise, then, that secondaries have become the dominant liquidity pathway even at @AngelListIndia. In 2023, secondaries accounted for just 25% of total exits. By 2025, that number shot up to 90%.
Stay tuned for the full report!
Private markets, just like public markets, reward patience. @AngelListIndia data (across 800 holdings) shows that IRR stabilizes and compounds meaningfully in the later years of the fund, typically beyond the 4/5 year mark.
More insights coming over the next few days, with the full report to follow 👀
We tracked 2,000 funding rounds across 800 portfolio companies at @AngelListIndia.
Between 2020 and 2025, the time between funding stages has increased across the board. Series A rounds now take more than 2x as long.
Investors are doing deeper diligence, demanding capital efficiency, and waiting for stronger proof points before writing checks. Founders must plan for longer runways between rounds.
This is the first of many insights we’ll be sharing. Follow along as we unpack the data with the full report dropping soon!
