The leader of Britain, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, has resigned as leader of the ruling Labour Party and Prime Minister of Great Britain, and announced a timetable for the election of his successor. He will remain Prime Minister until a new leader is chosen.
This is what happens in a democracy when a leader is judged to have failed to deliver. Political parties act, leaders are held accountable, and transitions of power take place through established democratic processes.
There will be no general election. Under the British parliamentary system, voters elected the Labour Party to govern, and it is that parliamentary majority that determines who becomes Prime Minister.
The new Labour leader will then become Prime Minister and serve the remainder of Labour’s mandate unless a general election is called earlier. Labour won a large parliamentary majority in 2024, so a change of leader does not automatically trigger a general election.
Let this be said plainly: the judicialization of political disputes is an act of cowardice and a betrayal of the people who look to political and civic leaders for direction and courage. You cannot hand a problem ignored by 16 million people to seven judges and pretend that you are serious about problem solving. By principle, the judiciary—the last bastion in the defense of civil and political rights—must be the last resort, not the first refuge for political failure. It should enter only when every democratic, political, and civic avenue has been exhausted, not when leaders lack the nerve to act. Beyond the involvement of the judiciary, leaders must be prepared to utter the ancient Capitol war cry, ‘Speak, hands, for me’ and it is this cry that the judiciary must come in to avert. Our people have every right to demand leadership that is responsive and agitated.
🔸Why are you still in exile? What’s stopping you from coming back if this regime is so amazing? Which side of history were you on when you cried “mama, please save us”?
We need new leaders.🇿🇼
🟢Harare lawyer Doug Coltart says despite last week's passage of Constitution Amendment Bill N0.3 and the arguments by authorities, the contentious far-reaching legislative changes need to be subjected a referendum.
This is one of the most contested issues around the constitutional amendments overwhelmingly voted for by the National Assembly last week.
Attorney-General Virginia Mabiza and others supporting CAB3 have steadfastly rejected the demand for a referendum, saying it is not needed in this instance.
These “amendments” are simply classic Zanu PF subterfuge.
The essence of #CAB3 - the illegal extension of time in power, the breach of the right to vote for all offices and the consolidation of power in the hands of the Executive- remain intact.
Don’t be fooled #Zimbabwe.
“In a short time, we've seen cancellations in tourism. This hurts the hospitality industry, in trade, and in many things. We are also seeing a decline in trade within the region.”
-This documentary exposes the impact of the recent “Foreigners-Must-Go” protests in South Africa.

🔹When listening to Ambassador Matemadanda express his feelings about the deteriorating situation under the Second Republic and the neglected state of the graves of those who died in Mozambique fighting for an independent Zimbabwe, one wonders: was this the reason the political establishment took him out?
Stop diluting fuel to enrich individuals. Undiluted fuel is cheaper in the region. We complain about U.S. sanctions, but this government is effectively placing its own citizens under sanctions by diluting fuel. Engines are being damaged by this useless fuel
