Online first and open access: Resisting detached abstraction and universality: The politics and practices of artmaking in the racialized suburbs of Scarborough, Toronto - Esmond Lee, 2026 https://t.co/olHlylQcD0
“This essay reflects on artistic practices as contextually grounded research inseparable from socio-political action through four temporary, limited and site-specific artistic interventions in Scarborough, Toronto's racialized suburb. Drawing from Flyvbjerg's long advocacy for phronesis in critical social sciences, phronetic approach is a problem-driven theoretical methodology that allows scholars, practitioners and activists rooted in the desire for political transformations and social practice to better participate in contested geographies of settler-colonial capitalist sub/urbanization.”

It is probably closer to 50 police officers in riot gear that York University sent in to clear the encampment — after releasing a statement yesterday which lied about wanting to “establish dialogue with the [*STUDENTS*] in the encampment.”
And how many starchitect firms will drop their drawers to get into the action especially in the collapse of the Saudi Line. And under the auspices of a smart 15 minute city. Again innovation=plunder.
Revitalization for whom? An important book that challenges the "successes" of Regent Park and Lawrence Heights redevelopment #topoli

#Toronto is in a housing crisis, and crisis talk can confuse. Here, we debunk the dominant discourse of market housing supply and point to new openings through which housing may come to serve diverse social needs, not land rent imperatives. Open access via @Radical_Housing
“A house on the beach is not a dream”: An Israeli real estate company specialising in Jewish settlements in the West Bank is planning for the day after. This is beyond aspirational, their staff is already working on plans.
[New Cities project] Israeli architects & planners started rendering images & visuals for “sustainable new city” in Gaza comprising of 6 colonial settlements. The atrocious complicit involvement of experts is no less occupying as the armed machines; both are mutually-constitutive
