A kosher restaurant on Décarie Blvd in Montreal's Côte-des-Neiges was gutted by fire around 3:15 a.m.

At approximately 3 am this morning, there was an arson attack on Nöam-a Jewish-owned Mediterranean kosher restaurant. It has been reported by CTV that it took nearly 80 fire trucks to get the intense, two-alarm blaze under control.

A man was seen running from nearby Nöam around the time the fire is believed to have been started, but area camera footage must be investigated. An SPVM spokesperson has said that all motives will be investigated.

Hundreds of organized crime-related attacks on businesses are recorded each year in Montréal. Criminal extortion, firebombings, and protection rackets targeting Montreal restaurants and clubs are commonplace and have been for 30 years or more.

Antisemitism is another possible motive for the arson. Since the October 7th terrorist invasion of Israel, there has been an increasing number of violent attacks on Jewish Montréalers by Jew haters.

A criminal investigation has been launched into the motive and method of the arson attack. The owners have yet to comment on the situation.
